Chiefs WR Conley expected to get first shot at starting role

According to The Kansas City Star, Kansas City Chiefs WR Chris Conley is expected to get the first shot at replacing WR Jeremy Maclin in the starting lineup in 2017. Maclin was released earlier this week, and Conley could join WR Tyreek Hill as one of the Chiefs top two wide receivers.
Conley was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of 2015 NFL draft from Georgia. He played 376 snaps as a rookie and become more involved in 2016 playing 817 of 1022 total snaps.
Conley has yet to contribute significantly to the Chiefs offense, however. In his rookie season, Conley was only targeted 30 times and averaged 0.90 yards per route run, which ranked him 104th out of 118 receivers with at least 200 snaps in route. His overall PFF grade of 60.7 was 86th out of 121 qualifying receivers.
In 2016, Conley's yards per route run was slightly better at 1.03, but his overall PFF grade fell to 54.4, ranking him 98th out of 115 wide receivers. Despite having elite speed, Conley has yet to become a strong deep threat, catching only 20 percent of his deep targets (over 20 yards) in 2016, the seventh worst rate out of 78 receivers with at least ten deep targets.
