Chiefs add secondary depth, sign S Jordan Sterns

  • Kansas City added to their secondary by acquiring PFF’s 23rd ranked undrafted free agent in Oklahoma State S Jordan Sterns.
  • While Kansas City used their sixth and final pick in the draft on former USC S Leon McQuay III, he projects as more of a slot cornerback in the NFL, leaving Sterns as their top young addition at the safety position this offseason.
  • He might be a great fit for what they’re doing, as he had the second-best run stop percentage among Big 12 safeties within eight yards of the line of scrimmage.
  • This potential sturdiness against the run would fit in nicely on a Kansas City defense that regularly uses six defensive backs (with one at inside linebacker), where incumbent Daniel Sorenson struggled, earning just a 34.6 PFF run defense grade a season ago.
