I was fairly accurate this week. I will give myself a score of three out of four. I was dead wrong about one matchup, but was accurate on the other three. I gave the advice to start a rookie receiver in your flex and he came through in a big way. I also take a look at the results of an elite matchup in New England.
Odell Beckham vs. Greg Toler
My key points: I made a bold prediction and claimed that Odell Beckham would post career highs in both catches and yards. It was a rough game for the Giants but Beckham played great. He faced a cornerback who starting to come back down to earth after a fast start. Greg Toler was no match for Beckham who did in fact have his best game in his short career.
In just his fourth game Beckham has already shown he has the ability to be a true number one receiver. Maybe more importantly quarterback Eli Manning trusts Beckham. In his first three games Beckham totaled 10 catches for 106 yards. On Monday Night Beckham destroyed his former career highs with eight catches for 156 yards. Beckham also had 11 targets which is more than he had the last two games combined. He has now been targeted 26 times and is yet to drop a pass. There is a video circulating around the internet of him snagging balls in warm-ups one handed. He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin and he will be drafted as a second-tier WR1 next year.
Toler has now allowed over 100 yards in back-to-back games. He was fantastic early in the year but with Vontae Davis playing on the other side teams will look to exploit Toler. He has been targeted 28 times the last three weeks and has allowed three touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 113.3 in his last four games. I think he will eventually find a nice medium between getting destroyed and shutting down receivers. He has another tough matchup this week facing Tom Brady and the Patriots.
