Welcome to the ‘hard yards’ weeks of the season. I call refer to them as hard yards for three reasons:
- Fantasy teams are beginning to separate themselves into contenders, also-rans and can't-wait-til-next-years
- A confluence of players either nearing a return from injury or beginning an injury break
- A number of fantasy friendly teams hitting their bye in week 9 or 10
Together these factors are crucial to your trade offers over the next few weeks. Focus your efforts on the teams that are on the cusp of the playoff picture or stuck in the middle with inconsistent performances.
If you have the depth, acquiring an injured or bye week player can reap dividends down the road. In fact, 12 teams are on byes over weeks 9 and 10, so expect fantasy starting lineups to look pretty barren starting next week.
PLAYERS ON BYE – WEEK 9
QB: Matt Ryan, Jay Cutler, Matt Stafford, Aaron Rodgers
RB: Stephen Jackson, Bryce Brown/Anthony Dixon, Matt Forte, Joique Bell, Reggie Bush, Eddie Lacy, Bishop Sankey
WR: Julio Jones, Roddy White, Sammy Watkins, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffrey, Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Kendall Wright
TE: Martellus Bennett, Delanie Walker
Running back and tight end don’t look too bad, but the #2, #6, #8 and #12 QBs will be out of commission. Even worse is the WR field with eight of the top 25 pass catchers off (plus Calvin Johnson).
