Titans: Vet option Douglas bolsters WR corps

PFF-headlinesFor seven years Harry Douglas has been productive as the third option in the Atlanta Falcons' passing game and he will look to continue that trend with the Tennessee Titans this season. Producing both from the slot and out wide as a foil for the likes of Julio Jones, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez, Douglas will land in Tennessee hoping to add to a receiving corps lacking the same star quality around him or at the quarterback position.

When Jones and White were dogged by injury in 2013 it was Douglas who stepped up to be the Falcons’ leading receiver notching a career-high 1,068 yards to suggest he could perform in a bigger role than the quality of players around him ever allowed him to be for Atlanta. In Tennessee, he joins an underwhelming receiver corps that has a solid performer in the slot in the shape of Kendall Wright but is thin on quality to the outside. Douglas won’t be a massive upgrade in that regard but he at least provides some stiff competition and would be able to outperform the likes of Derek Hagan to add some more veteran savvy to the Tennessee receiving corps.

Who will be throwing Douglas the football is, of course, an open question in Tennessee with the Titans in position to take one of the two signal-callers in the upcoming draft, but widely predicted to pass on the opportunity and give Zach Mettenberger the chance to prove he can be the guy. Whoever is under center for the Titans come September they’ll need plenty of help at receiver to move them forward and Douglas adds a valuable veteran option.
