Redskins: DeSean Jackson shines in Washington

PFF-headlinesOne of the biggest roster moves from the 2014 off-season was the NFC East Champion Philadelphia Eagles cutting their star deep threat, DeSean Jackson. The exact reason Chip Kelly cut Jackson, who had 1,385 yards and nine TDs, remains unclear. However the Washington Redskins were more than happy to hire their former tormentor, and it’s a move that has certainly worked in their favor.

Jackson has remained very dangerous – especially on deep passes thrown 20 or more yards in the air – despite playing with three different signal-callers (Robert Griffin III, Kirk Cousins, and Colt McCoy) and dealing with various injuries over the year. Jackson’s 52.2% catch rate on those Deep Passes is the fifth-best mark in the league among qualifying receivers, and he has turned those 12 receptions into more yards (600) than any other receiver on such passes.

With one game remaining, Jackson has the third highest yards per reception in the NFL (20.1), and is tied with Golden Tate for the fifth-highest yards-after-catch per reception (7.2). His 112.0 WR Rating ranks 10th out of 50 qualifying receivers. Jackson is also the only wide out to beat Richard Sherman for a TD catch, and has also accounted for the most yards against Sherman (82). He is one of the bright spots on Washington’s roster.
