Redskins’ DeAngelo Hall likely to be limited early in 2017

  • Washington Redskins S DeAngelo Hall has missed 31 of the last 48 games due to various injuries. He most recently suffered a torn ACL in Week 3 of the 2016 season and is likely to start the 2017 season on the reserve/PUP list.
  • Hall signed with the Redskins as a free agent prior to the 2009 season. He has played six seasons at cornerback, but made the switch to free safety in the twilight of his career.
  • His unavailability is a blow to the Redskins, who need veteran depth at safety. The projected starters D.J. Swearinger and Su’a Cravens are both better fits in the box.
  • Hall has been inconsistent since moving to safety. He allowed an average of 0.56 yards per snap in coverage in 2015 (ranking him 50th among safeties) and allowed a passer rating of 113.7 on throws into his coverage in his limited playing time in 2016.
  • Hall’s play has certainly dropped off in recent years, but he might still feature as Washington search for balance in their secondary.
