Raiders QB Derek Carr looking to get new contract done soon

  • Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr is entering the final year of his rookie contract this season. Oakland GM Reggie McKenzie has stated the team will focus on getting a new deal done sometime between the end of the NFL draft and the start of training camp. Carr is reportedly looking to get the contract extension wrapped up as soon as possible.
  • After being drafted in the second round in 2014, Carr has developed into one of the league’s best young quarterbacks. His overall PFF grade has gone from 47.7 (ranked 38th) in 2014 to 87.0 (sixth) in 2016.
  • Carr has also improved his deep passing, going from a 57.9 passer rating in 2014 (25th) on balls thrown 20 or more yards downfield to a 117.6 rating in 2016 (fifth).
  • The benchmark for a new contract will be the extension Andrew Luck signed in 2016, which averages just under $25 million per year. In 2016, Carr’s ranking in many PFF categories was very similar to Luck, including deep ball passer rating (Carr fifth, Luck seventh) and overall PFF grade (Carr sixth, Luck fourth).

Ka-ching! Ka-ching! Carr will probably get a contract that allows him to buy his own casino once they get to Vegas.
