No timetable for Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick following injury

  • The Cincinnati Bengals held their first organized team activity on Tuesday, but starting CB Dre Kirkpatrick wasn’t able to participate after suffering a small fracture to his hand in what he described as a “freak accident.” Head coach Marvin Lewis provided no timetable for his return.
  • The 2012 first-round pick out of Alabama has made 29 starts for the Bengals over the past two seasons after starting his career in mostly a backup role. This offseason, Kirkpatrick signed a five-year, $52.5 million contract to stay with the Bengals.
  • In his 15 starts in 2016, Kirkpatrick accumulated 33 tackles, 14 stops, three interceptions and six passes defended. He led Bengals cornerbacks in interceptions, passes defended and allowed the lowest completion percentage (68.9 percent).
  • He allowed a passer rating of just 68.9 which ranked him 14th of all the league’s cornerbacks, and allowed 0.83 yards per cover snap, the leagues 11th best mark.
  • Bengals CBs Adam Jones, Darqueze Dennard and Josh Shaw will all compete for additional snaps at cornerback if Kirkpatrick remains out of action.
