Desmond Trufant is on the field at OTAs

  • Falcons CB┬áDesmond Trufant was back on the practice field working in team OTAs on Tuesday per NFL.com. Trufant suffered a torn pectoral during a Week 9 game against Tampa Bay in 2016, and missed the rest of the regular season and the team’s Super Bowl run.
  • Trufant was drafted in the first round by the Falcons in 2013 from the University of Washington. In April he signed a five year contract extension with the team for a reported $69 million with $42 million guaranteed.
  • As a rookie Trufant made an impact immediately, finishing the 2013 season as the number six overall graded cornerback with a PFF grade of 87.6. In 2015 he was targeted at the lowest rate of any NFL cornerback, leading the league in cover snaps per target at 9.8.
  • A strength of Trufant’s game has been his sure tackling ability. In nine games in 2016 he had 0 missed tackles, playing the most snaps at cornerback in the NFL without a missed tackle.
