Chase Roullier could be a fix for Washington at center

  • Washington head coach Jay Gruden recently stated his biggest fear as a coach was a lack of depth at center. Sixth-round prospect Chase Roullier can potentially find a path to a starting job on the offensive line and put an end to his head coach’s woes.
  • The last few seasons, the Redskins have struggled to find someone to man the center position. Current starter Spencer Long is a converted guard, as was previous starter Kory Lichtensteiger. Depth was a problem last season, as Lichtensteiger was sent to IR and the Redskins were forced to sign free agent John Sullivan.
  • Roullier played left guard in 2014 and 2015 before moving to center for his senior season. He surrendered six pressures as a guard in 2015 and eight pressures as a center in 2016. He allowed just 28 total pressures on the 1,277 pass-blocking snaps he accumulated over his college career. Roullier was the second-highest-graded guard in 2015 and the ninth-highest-graded center in 2016. His 98.7 pass-blocking efficiency in 2016 tied him for the third in this year’s draft class, and he didn’t surrender a single pressure on third down this season.
  • Roullier had a run-blocking success percentage of 91.6 percent as a center in 2016, seventh-best in the draft class. He could potentially help a Redskins offense that struggled on the ground last season, ranking 21st in the NFL in yards per game.
  • His experience at left guard is also invaluable. Starting left guard Shawn Lauvao was the 60th-ranked guard in all of football last season, and allowed 39 total pressures in 16 games.

I wish that the Packers picked this guy up. It’s hard to find a good multi-positional O-lineman, and the Skins got him at a bargain in my opinion.

Loved this guy when he was drafted. Long’s not a bad C, but I’d like to see him move back to LG and kick Lauvao’s sorry ass out of there, while having Roullier take over C.
