PFF Roundup: Preseason Week 3

DevontaWe’re down to one week of preseason play until the regular season kicks off. PFF Main put out several featured articles recapping preseason games from Week 3 and examining some of the players who have stood out so far. Here we will take a look at five players gaining recognition in these articles, for better or worse, and put a fantasy spin on their recent activity.

Freeman stands out among running backs

Devonta Freeman lands at the top of the list for running back grades after three weeks of preseason play. He has a +3.9 grade in 65 snaps so far.

PFF’s signature stats show Freeman is averaging 2.8 yards after contact per attempt, and he’s forced six missed tackles in 26 total touches. While Freeman is working with the backups, he continues to show good vision and movement in the open field.

Sam Monson mentions in his top running back grades piece that Freeman’s best play of the preseason didn’t even count. In the fourth quarter against Houston, Freeman broke loose for a 23-yard touchdown, making a few cuts and surging forward into the end zone.

Freeman’s average draft position (ADP) is soaring into the eighth round. That’s starting to become a rich price for a rookie running back who is battling Steven Jackson and Jacquizz Rodgers for snaps, but it’s clear Freeman has the talent to work his way up the depth chart. Just keep in mind Freeman’s snaps have come exclusively with second or third-string.
