PFF Week: Out West, Week 2

PFF-Week-Out-WestIt’s your last chance to get caught up on the happenings at PFF before the next slate of games is upon us, and our new ‘PFF Week’ posts provide quick access to the week that was. The ‘Out West’ edition covers all things pertaining to the AFC and NFC West divisions for a one-stop Saturday shop built to keep you in the loop and on top of your football-watching game.

The West divisions produced some sneaky-good games in Week 1 like the Rams' victory over the Cardinals on a late Greg Zuerlein field goal and the Chargers' wild Monday night loss to the Texans. We'll cover everything from Week 1's games in addition to getting you set up for all of the Week 2 West action.

Week 1 Wrap

The AFC and NFC West combined to go 5-3 in Week 1, a record that included one divisional game (Arizona @ St. Louis). Two of the wins were very high-profile (Denver over Baltimore and San Francisco over Green Bay). Our PFF team broke down each of these games in our Week 1 ReFocused articles.

Three NFC West rookies, including two from the Rams, made the “Five to Watch” section of Steve Palazzolo’s Week 1 Race for Rookie of the Year.

The Wests represented well on PFF’s Team of Week 1 with a total of seven players landing on the list.

The divisions also put a few players on PFF’s ‘Had a Bad Day’ Team from Week 1 including big-name players like Darnell Dockett, Eric Decker, and Cortland Finnegan.

In Nathan Jahnke’s 32 Observations piece, he highlights notable performances from Week 1 such as a nice reminder of how good Dwight Freeney can be and a reason for optimism for San Diego Chargers’ fans.

Looking to Week 2

The West’s Week 2 slate of games looks pretty good as it includes the league’s best new rivalry with the 49ers heading to Seattle and the third round of the Manning Bowl as Peyton’s Broncos take on Eli’s Giants in the Meadowlands. The San Francisco-Seattle tilt is the only divisional game of the week for either the NFC or AFC West.

Our Three to Focus On articles examine three matchups that will go a long way toward determining the winners of each game.

PFF Pick’em Week 2 has our experts letting you know which teams will win in the second week before the games are even played. Well, sometimes at least.

First-Rounders in Focus recaps each first-round pick’s grade in Week 1. The top overall pick, Eric Fisher, finished his first career game in the red while only Tavon Austin graded in the green from either the AFC or NFC West.

Additionally…

The Raiders and Broncos each had one player in Gordon McGuinness’ Week 1 Secret Superstars piece.

A West team occupies the top spot on each of our eight experts’ individual Power Rankings and a West team also resides in last place on one ballot.

That wraps up the Week 2 edition of PFF Week: Out West. Both AFC and NFC West teams have tough matchups outside of their divisions this week. We'll recap what happens in those games in next week's Out West.
