PFF Roundup – Week 7

RyanEvery week I look around PFF Main content and features to see what fantasy insight we can take away to help owners going forward. This week we’re looking at two quarterbacks with inconsistent play, fantasy’s No. 1 running back and a veteran wide receiver looking to stay on track again.

A lack of support for Ryan

The Falcons defense is bad. They currently rank No. 29 in passing yards and No. 28 in rushing yards allowed per game. When this defense allows 28.3 points per game, Matt Ryan is going to have a lot of responsibility attempting to keep Atlanta competitive.

Some will be disappointed by Ryan’s stat line from Week 6 at first glance, but when you read Michael Renner’s Bears-Falcons ReFo, you’ll get a better understanding of what really happened. Renner points out the Falcons dropped seven passes against the Bears. Those seven passes amounted to a total of 99 yards downfield. Those are valuable fantasy points Ryan missed out on due to a lack of help from his receivers. Levine Toilolo dropped three passes alone in open space.

Both of Ryan’s offensive tackles received pass blocking grades lower than -3.0.  Despite all these issues, Ryan was accurate on 26 of 32 pass attempts.

Ryan is the QB5 in four-point passing touchdown leagues. Week 7 and 8 are tough matchups for the Falcons passing game, but the schedule lightens up after their bye. Ryan sees favorable matchups against the Buccaneers, Panthers and Browns between Weeks 10-12, and his championship matchup in Week 16 will be in the Superdome. Ryan threw for 715 yards and five touchdowns in his last two games in New Orleans.
