In this weekly column we'll take a look at the top performer at each position. The goal isn't to just analyze the players individually but to identify variables that make up these top performances so we can more accurately project them in the future.
Quarterback – Aaron Rodgers GB
His Line: 22-36 341 yards 3 TDs, 18 yards 0 TD rushing, aDOT= 10.5, PFF Grade= 4.7
The king of the Performance Report hill is still on top. There's no hotter team in the NFL than the Packers and no hotter quarterback than Rodgers. This week he didn't throw for six touchdowns but was remarkably efficient with his pinpoint accuracy.
Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb both have an excellent rapport with Rodgers and highlight how the players surrounding a player, especially in the passing game, is paramount to top level success. Obviously I expect Rodgers to continue to play well but notice that these last two top performances have been at home. Just as we saw with Roethlisberger a road trip could cool off the Green Bay signal caller.
There's enormous debate over when to target a quarterback in your fantasy football draft. I still prefer to wait as long as possible while others make the case for taking one earlier with today's higher scoring offenses.
The most important aspect of your decision may be to select a player that at least has the potential to post the massive numbers we see each week. Whether that means one player earlier like Manning or Rodgers, or a combination of players like Romo and Roethlisberger, I think drafting upside is very important at a time when most quarterbacks can put up points on any given week.
