What to look for in Week 1
Ah, yes. Football season has returned, Sundays are back, and Ed Hochuli still knows which way to the beach. Life is good. It’s been a long offseason, so without further delay, here are five key storylines to watch for as you make your first fantasy football lineup decisions this weekend:
What to expect from Green Bay’s passing game following the loss of Jordy Nelson?
The loss of Packers star receiver Jordy Nelson to a torn ACL before the season even started no doubt presents a big challenge for the offense to overcome. After all, Nelson (128.7) and teammate Randall Cobb (133.8) ranked as the top two receivers in the league last year in quarterback rating when targeted. Obviously, part of that can be attributed to the fact that quarterback Aaron Rodgers, coming off his second NFL MVP award, is pretty good. Nelson and Cobb are also proven talents, but beyond the talent factor is the chemistry between quarterback and receiver.
And that brings us back to the question at hand as Green Bay prepares for its season opener against the Chicago Bears. Davante Adams steps into a more prominent role, and Rodgers has shown trust in the second-year pro despite an up-and-down rookie season. Adams’ 59.2-percent catch rate ranked just 85th in the league, although it was one spot behind Mike Evans (59.3) and ahead of Calvin Johnson (57.5). Still, Adams also drew double-digit targets from Rodgers in each of the two games he eclipsed 100 receiving yards as a rookie, including his 7-117-1 line in the divisional playoff game against Dallas.
