- New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules, according to NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones. Jenkins was reportedly absent from the team facility on Monday, which prompted the suspension. He will miss his team’s Week 9 game against the Los Angeles Rams.
- Jenkins, a former second-round pick, spent the first four years of his career with the Rams, and signed with the Giants prior to the 2016 season. He enjoyed a career year in his first year with the team, and ended the campaign with a career best in catch rate (50.0 percent) and passer rating allowed (65.2) on the way to a career best PFF overall grade of 88.0.
- Through seven games, Jenkins has arguably been the Giants’ best cornerback, and he’s currently ranked 28th among 114 qualifying players at the position with a PFF overall grade of 81.5. He’s allowed a passer rating of just 70.9 on throws into his primary coverage, and has allowed a reception once every 10.9 coverage snaps, both the best marks among his teammates.
- With Jenkins out, fourth-year cornerback Ross Cockrell will likely see an increase in snaps. Cockrell has performed well on limited action this season, and has allowed a passer rating of just 85.7 on the 17 targets into his coverage, the second-best mark among Giants’ corners.
