  • Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden has told reporters that starting right guard Brandon Scherff suffered a grade 2 MCL sprain in the team’s Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Scherff has not yet been ruled out for his team’s Week 8 game against the Dallas Cowboys, instead, Gruden told reporters that there’s a chance the guard would play.
  • Scherff has been an integral part of the Redskins offensive line this season, and had played all 369 of his team’s offensive snaps prior to suffering his injury. Through seven weeks, he’s ranked fourth among 78 qualifying guards with a PFF overall grade of 84.9.
  • A big reason for Scherff’s success is his stellar performance in the running game, which was highlighted by a monstrous 99.8 run blocking grade against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. Through six total games, Scherff’s run blocking grade of 90.9 is the second-best among guards.
  • If Scherff is unable to go against the Cowboys, rookie offensive lineman Chase Roullier is the most likely candidate to replace him. Roullier, who saw snaps at center this week in relief of the injured Spencer Long, played guard during his 2015 season at the University Wyoming, and has the potential to adequately fill the void in the run game. In his final season at Wyoming, Roullier’s run-blocking success percentage of 91.6 percent was the seventh-best among this year’s draft class.
