Raiders add Baylor WR Zamora to receiving corps
- Undrafted free agent Ishmael Zamora signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders, and took part in their rookie mini-camp this weekend. Zamora has the size (6-foot-3, 224 pounds) and speed (4.53 40 time) combination that NFL teams are looking for, but lacks great route-running ability and pass-catching consistency.
- The Raiders struck gold last season with an UDFA signing in RB Jalen Richard, and might have another explosive weapon in Zamora. He likely will battle WRs Johnny Holton, KJ Brent and Jaydon Mickens for a roster spot at the bottom of the team’s receiver depth chart.
- Zamora had some off-the-field issues at Baylor, but his biggest on-field concern might be dropped passes. He dropped 10 balls last season of 73 catchable passes thrown to him, a 13.7 percent drop rate that was 117th out of 131 draft-eligible receivers ranked by PFF. He joins a group of Raiders receivers that had some issues with drops last season as well.
