Mark Ingram addresses new position competition
- New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram told ESPN’s Mike Triplett when asked about the team’s new acquisition Adrian Peterson that “It doesn’t matter who’s in the backfield with me… I’m always going to compete, I’m always going to give my best.” The Saints open their three-day mandatory minicamp Tuesday.
- Ingram’s overall PFF grade in 2016 was 74.8, 17th out of 89 running backs with at least 100 snaps. In Peterson’s last full season (2015), his overall PFF grade was 74.9, 19th out of 94 eligible running backs.
- Ingram had an elusive rating (the impact of a running back independent of the blocking in front of him) of 58.6 in 2016, good for sixth out of 53 RBs with at least 83 carries. In 2015, Peterson had an elusive rating of 37.5, 25th out of 52 eligible running backs.
- Ingram also had 3.1 yards after contact per attempt in 2016, tied for the sixth-highest mark out of 58 running backs with at least 250 snaps at the position. Peterson’s 2015 season resulted in 2.3 yards after contact per attempt, which was 29th out of 68 running backs with at least 200 snaps.
