Lions expect Ansah to be ready for Week 1

  • The Detroit Lions expect edge defender Ezekiel Ansah to be ready for the first regular season game in 12 days. Ansah suffered an ankle injury in the second week of the regular season last year and seems to have not fully recovered as he has yet to practice this training camp or feature in the preseason.
  • The injury limited Ansah to just 540 snaps last season, the lowest of his career in a single season. It seemingly affected his production too, his overall PFF grade of 75.7 ranked 48th among edge defenders and was the lowest grade since his rookie season.
  • He wasn’t the same player rushing the passer either, in 2016 Ansah had a pass-rush productivity (PRP) of just 8.8, also the lowest since his rookie season, accumulating 35 total pressures on 304 pass-rush snaps (PRP measures pressure created on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks).
