Kenny Golladay to become red zone threat for the Lions

  • Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press believes Detroit Lions wide receiver Kenny Golladay will be a big part of the team’s offensive game plan inside of the red zone this coming season. Golladay was the Lions’ third-round draft pick and is known for his athletic ability.
  • Golladay wasn’t featured too heavily in the red zone when at Northern Illinois. Last season he was targeted 11 times in the red zone and on those 11 targets his production wasn’t great, hauling in just six of those passes. Quarterbacks had a passer rating of 68.6 when targeting Golladay in the red zone, below the FBS average of 85.2.
  • In his first preseason game with the Lions, Golladay caught two red zone touchdowns and was given the PFF game ball. The opportunity for Golladay to contribute in the red zone is certainly there, as the Lions are losing 20 red zone targets, 15 red zone catches and six red zone touchdowns with the departure of Anquan Boldin to the Bills.
