Jacksonville Jaguars 17, Chicago Bears 16
Here are the highest-graded players and top takeaways from the Jaguars' Week 6 win over the Bears.
Quarterback grade: Blake Bortles, 79.5
Bortles leads Jags to comeback win
It was a good day for Bortles, who inspired a fourth-quarter comeback with some accurate passing even when his receivers let him down. His interception would have been a touchdown if not for a drop, and he regularly challenged the defense, especially on the intermediate throws, where he went 9-of-13 for 162 yards, a touchdown and the aforementioned pick.
Top offensive grades:
C Brandon Linder 82.6
G Patrick Omameh 82.5
OT Jermey Parnell, 74.3
WR Marquise Lee, 74.0
G A.J. Cann, 73.1
Jaguars' offense struggles with poor performances from star receivers
The Jacksonville offense has the potential to be high-powered, but that’s only when they can get their two star receivers going. That did not happen on Sunday, with Allen Hurns catching five passes on nine throws to him for 74 yards and two drops. Robinson had three catches on six targets, and also added two drops. One was costly, as it was in the end zone and resulted in an interception.
Top defensive grades:
LB Paul Posluszny, 88.4
CB Aaron Colvin, 84.4
S John Cyprien, 83.7
DI Abry Jones, 80.9
CB Prince Amukamara, 80.2
Coverage keys win in Chicago
Paul Posluszny was all over the field on Sunday, with 10 solo tackles, seven of which resulted in offensive failures. His coverage grade of 91.7 was the highest such mark in the game. The Jags' secondary also had a great game, as three members of their secondary earned top grades. Cyprien was thrown at eight times, surredering three catches for only 31 yards.
Quarterback grade: Brian Hoyer, 47.2
Hoyer struggles in all-around poor offensive performance from Bears
Brain Hoyer’s limitations as an NFL QB were on display Sunday afternoon. Hoyer has always been able to hit short passes, but struggles down the field, and that’s exactly what happened on Sunday. On throws under 10 yards, Hoyer was 25-35 for 233 yards. On all throws over 10 yards, however, he was 5-for-13 for 79 yards. Hoyer also struggled when pressured, with his QB rating under pressure a dismal 54.6.
Top offensive grades:
G Josh Sitton, 80.8
G Kyle Long, 76.2
HB Ka’Deem Carey, 73.5
OT Bobby Massie, 72.0
TE Zach Miller, 72.0
Bears interior O-line continues impressive play
The top grades for the Bears certainly don’t come from the flashier positions, but former first-round pick Kyle Long and late preseason pick-up Josh Sitton performed well on the offensive side for Chicago. Long had a clean sheet, with no pressures allowed, and Sitton recorded a game-high run-blocking grade of 81.9.
Top defensive grades:
S Adrian Amos, 84.8
ED Willie Young, 83.6
DI Mitch Unrein, 78.2
S Harold Jones-Quartey, 77.8
ED Christian Jones, 73.9
Young and Amos headline solid effort
Willie Young had the best day among Chicago's front-seven. He recorded the highest pass-rush grade of all Bears' defenders (82.1), notching two QB hurries and two sacks on the day, and sprinkled in three run stops on top of that. Amos had the best day in coverage, only surrendering one reception for 5 yards, and also had a pass defense.
