- The Los Angeles Chargers and franchised edge defender Melvin Ingram have agreed on a four-year extension worth $66 million, it was reported Sunday. Ingram will likely be the “LEO” defender in new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley’s 4-3 defense.
- Ingram broke out as a player in 2015, grading in the top-20 among edge defenders for the first time in his career. His 84.2 overall grade ranked 18th. Ingram was very productive as a pass-rusher that year producing the 11th-most pressures among 3-4 OLBs (56).
- In 2016 Ingram’s game took another big step, as he ranked sixth out of 109 edge defenders with an overall grade of 88.1 and just behind teammate and fellow edge Joey Bosa.
- Over the past two seasons Ingram has been one of the most effective pass-rushers. His 125 total pressures over that stretch ranks fourth among 3-4 OLBs. His 20 sacks ranked fifth.
