• The Texans have built a top WR trio: Nico Collins, Tank Dell and Stefon Diggs will form an elite group of wideouts for quarterback C.J. Stroud in 2024.

• The Bills now lack much receiving talent: Khalil Shakir is the team's current WR1, but that could change if Buffalo selects a wideout early in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Buffalo Bills are trading wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Buffalo will receive a 2025 second-round draft pick, while the Texans will receive Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round draft pick and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick.

What it means for the Houston Texans

The Texans now have arguably the best wide receiver trio in the NFL. Nico Collins is coming off a career-best season in which he averaged 3.11 yards per route run, trailing only Tyreek Hill in the regular season and playoffs, and Tank Dell recorded 2.22 yards per route run — the second-best mark among rookies, trailing only Puka Nacua.

In adding Diggs, the Texans get a veteran receiver who has never earned a season-long PFF overall grade below 77.0. His 21 missed tackles forced in 2023 were tied for fourth in the league in the regular season and playoffs, so this move just makes Houston's already dynamic offense even more potent.

What it means for the Buffalo Bills

While this is a short-term step back for the Bills, it allows them to clear future cap space and set themselves up for another run in the near future. It also highly suggests that they will spend their first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft on a wide receiver, with Texas’ Adonai Mitchell their current preferred pick by users in PFF’s mock draft simulator.

This is also a chance for Khalil Shakir to step up and potentially be the Bills' WR1 in 2024. In his second year out of Boise State, he earned a 76.9 PFF receiving grade and averaged 1.75 yards per route run, which ranked fourth in the regular season and playoffs among second-year wide receivers.
