Injury updates for Hilton, Bryant, Jackson, and others
Well, NFL regular-season football is back! And, a plethora of injury news comes with that. Many fantasy-relevant players were banged up in Week 1, the week of the fantasy tight ends. The most significant injury news occurred late Sunday night when Dez Bryant limped off the field with a foot injury.
After watching the game footage and digesting all of the news reports, I’ll fill you in on all of the injuries that are relevant for fantasy. This article will be updated throughout the week, as we know more specifics about these injuries.
Also, as a reminder, there are five status designations players can have: active, probable, questionable, doubtful and out. The active and out designations are self-explanatory. The probable designation signifies a player has a greater than 50 percent chance of being active for the game. Questionable means the player essentially has a 50-50 chance of playing. Doubtful means the player has less than a 25 percent chance of playing.
Derek Carr injured his right (throwing) hand on Sunday after hitting it on a defender’s helmet. The X-ray images were negative for any fractures. However, the soft tissue injury in the hand led to pain and swelling that made him unable to properly grip a football. If the Oakland medical staff can effectively control the swelling, he has a decent chance to play in Week 2. His practice participation at the end of the week will be the best indicator of how his hand is responding to treatment. Update (9/16/15): The MRI result of Carr’s hand was reportedly encouraging. He is believed to have a bruised right thumb. Unless he has any setbacks, he is expected to play in Week 2.
Josh McCown suffered a concussion on Sunday. He is in the NFL concussion protocol at this time. He is doubtful for Week 2.
