A quarter of the fantasy regular season is nearly complete, and yet there are more questions than answers for most RBBCs. Joseph Randle, Devonta Freeman, LaGarrette Blount, and Chris Johnson made huge splashes and changed the dynamic of their timeshares, while the consecutive disappointing performances from Bishop Sankey, Carlos Hyde, and Jeremy Hill suggest their week 1 explosions could have been outliers. But are we still in the final throes of the extended preseason? Should we expect a continuance of the dramatic production swings, or have we reached an equilibrium? Let’s explore.
Miami Dolphins – The Enigma that is Jonas Gray
Miami has been one of the biggest disappointments of the young season and ranks 27th in rushing yards per game (72.7). Lamar Miller was viewed as a borderline RB1 entering 2015, but has only managed a measly 30-105-0 (9-77-0) line through three games. The signing and eventual promotion of ex-Patriot Jonas Gray should have Miller owners panicking.
While Miller continued to dominate the snap distribution in week 3, he logged one of the worst usage (looks/snaps) percentages for a starting running back (22.2%). With the game out of reach, Jonas Gray was allowed to audition for the role of early down back and ran well (9-49-0, 16 snaps) against a stout Buffalo Bills front seven.
