'Had a Bad Day' Team, Week 6

In an ideal world everyone would play to their best and we’d be left with nothing but praise to give to players.

This isn’t an ideal world.

For whatever reason guys don’t always play well in the National Football League. It may be that they lack talent, that they suffer from inexperience, or they may just be having one of those days. Regardless we’re here to hold them to account whether it be an undrafted free agent starting his first game, or a 10 time All Pro at the peak of his powers.

Let’s see just who made the ‘Had a Bad Day' Team for Week 6.

(Note: Team will be updated after Monday Night Football games are analyzed and on Wednesday when All-22 footage helps us study plays in even more detail where needed with a * noting a change)

Offense

Quarterback: Terrelle Pryor, OAK (-7.9)

After making a good initial impression Pryor came crashing back down to Earth against a ferocious Chiefs defense. Bamboozled and then some.

Dishonorable Mention: Robert Griffin III (WAS)

Running Back: Ray Rice, BAL (-2.5)

It’s tough for Rice with his offensive line failing to set up many running lanes. Still, you’d like to see him do more than break the one tackle that he did.

Dishonorable Mention: Darren McFadden (OAK)

Full Back: Derrick Coleman, SEA (-2.0)

A fine Week 1 makes way to some less than stellar blocking in recent weeks. Coleman is having a tough time out there.

Dishonorable Mention: James Develin (NE)

Tight End: Jordan Cameron, CLE (-3.3)

Two penalties, not much meaningful yardage and a negative grade with his run blocking. This wasn’t Cameron looking at his best.

Dishonorable Mention: Sean McGrath (KC)

Wide Receivers: Aaron Dobson, NE (-4.1) and Donnie Avery, KC (-2.7)

Dobson caught six balls but two drops, one of them that should have proved costly, really hurt his grade and understandably so. Avery fumbled his way into this team because as you know we hate fumbling.

Dishonorable Mention: Anquan Boldin (SF) and Ryan Broyles (DET)

Tackles: Bradley Sowell, ARZ (-6.8) and Eric Fisher, KC (-4.8)

Sowell is doing a good job of having the Cardinals coaches remember Levi Brown fondly. As for Fisher it’s important to note that he’s a rookie and he’s been drafted with the long term in mind. Still, if the Chiefs weren’t winning so many games we’d be hearing more about it.

Dishonorable Mention: Khalif Barnes (OAK) and Marcus Gilbert (PIT)

Guards: Johnnie Troutman, SD (-6.1) and Chris Chester, WAS (-6.2)

A big win for San Diego but the play of Troutman would have been concerning. After a solid start to the year the team can't afford him to let his play slip . Chester was demolished when the Redskins opted to pass, giving up a terrible seven hurries.

Dishonorable Mention: Will Rackley (JAX)  and Davin Joseph (TB)

Center: Jeremy Zuttah, TB (-6.2)

Zuttah hasn’t had the best of years but we couldn’t have seen him struggling quite so much as he did against the Eagles. He was floundering when the Bucs tried to run.

Dishonorable Mention: Robert Turner (TEN)

Defense

Each week we put forward a hybrid defense that features two edge rushers (4-3 defensive ends or 3-4 outside linebackers), three players on the “interior” of the defensive line (3-4 defensive ends or defensive tackles and two linebackers (all inside linebackers and 4-3 outside linebackers).

Defensive Interior – Ends: Kendall Langford, SL (-2.9) and Ziggy Hood, PIT (-2.5)

Clean up sack aside Hood didn’t do anything in his 36 snaps to show the team made a mistake in benching him. Meanwhile, the Rams won but Langford will be less happy about his efforts as he lost his battle with Brandon Brooks.

Dishonorable Mention: Darnell Dockett (ARZ) and Nick Hayden (DAL)

Defensive Interior – Nose: Akeem Spence, TB (-5.7)

That wasn’t pretty. The Eagles had his numbers all day and he made things worse by jumping offsides on a fourth and one.

Dishonorable Mention: Alameda Ta’amu (ARZ)

Edge Rushers: Jared Allen, MIN (-4.4) and Mike Neal, GB (-4.2)

The conversion to outside linebacker is going to have some rough moments and for Neal that’s especially the case whenever he’s left in coverage. Allen had just the two hurries in a poor showing from a player who hasn’t been able to find his best form this year.

Dishonorable Mention: Julius Peppers (CHI) and Shea McClellin (CHI)

Linebackers: David Hawthorne, NO (-4.9) and Craig Robertson, CLE (-4.0)

That wasn’t great from Hawthorne who found himself out of place in coverage early and often. Robertson got worked over by the Lions passing attack, getting beat on 8-of-10 balls thrown into his coverage.

Dishonorable Mention: Brian Cushing (HOU) and Kiki Alonso (BUF)

Cornerbacks: Antonio Cromartie, NYJ (-4.3) and Lardarius Webb, BAL (-2.8)

He may have been playing hurt but Cromartie didn’t help his team in getting beat badly on a double move for a touchdown. He also allowed four more receptions and was flagged for pass interference. Webb himself got beat for six receptions (including a touchdown) and 128 yards as the Packers worked him over.

Dishonorable Mention: Prince Amukamara (NYG) and Zackary Bowman (CHI)

Safeties: Barry Church, DAL (-3.8) and James Ihedigbo, BAL (-3.6)

Two players who started off the season well but simply haven’t quite been able to keep it up. Church missed a tackle and got flagged for two silly penalties. That was in contrast to Ihedigbo who missed four tackles of his own, matching his season total for the year.

Dishonorable Mention: Jerron McMillan (GB) and Dashon Goldson (TB)
