Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus corner backs. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.
Week 13 matchup upgrades
Davante Adams vs. Tampa Bay – Sorry Jordy Nelson owners, but Adams has emerged as Brett Hundley’s preferred target and has 298 receiving yards and two scores on 18 catches over the last three weeks. He’s a good bet to continue to produce with a plus matchup on tap against the Bucs. Adams projects to see Robert McClain in primary coverage. McClain has struggled this season and is allowing 77 percent of his targets to be caught.
DeAndre Hopkins vs. Tennessee – This is one of the rare situations where shadow coverage isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We expect rookie Adoree’ Jackson to shadow Hopkins this week. Jackson has shown signs of improvement over the last two weeks, but he’s still no match for Hopkins. Jackson has allowed four receiving scores in his coverage this season, including one to Antonio Brown two weeks ago.
