Fantasy football tiered rankings

Fantasy football rankings are great. But they don't tell the whole story. A guy who is ranked third might be really close to fourth, but miles away from second. Just listing the players in order doesn't show that schism.

That's why all week, Jeff Ratcliffe, Director of PFF Fantasy, has been offering his tiered positional rankings for the 2016 season. His tiers not only show you who is ahead of whom, they also show where the big gaps are. Is Rob Gronkowski still a tier to himself at tight end? Is Drew Brees a first-tier quarterback or a second? What the heck do you do with Arian Foster? Ratcliffe breaks them all down, using his expert analysis and projections.

He's doing IDP too, for those of you playing the deeper formats. Check back all week for updates as the rankings unfold.

Quarterbacks

How deep is the top tier? Which tier does Eli Manning fall in? And how many tiers before we get to this year's rookies?

Running backs

Is Ezekiel Elliott a top-tier back? Which guys offer extra value in PPR? Is Melvin Gordon on the upswing?

Wide receivers

Is the first tier three players deep or four? Where do Jordy Nelson, Kelvin Benjamin and Josh Gordon slot for their returns? How long should you wait on guys like Mike Wallace and Tajae Sharpe?

Tight ends

Is Rob Gronkowski still a tier all to himself? Where does Coby Fleener wind up now that he's in New Orleans? What about the aging guys like Antonio Gates and Jason Witten?
