PFF Fantasy Roundtable: How early do you pounce on a favorite draft pick?

We’re this close to the regular season, so it’s time for that final push before your fantasy drafts.

This week, we’re talking snake-draft strategy. We’ve got Pat Thorman, Scott Barrett, Brandon Marianne Lee and me on board today. Click on the names to continue the discussion on Twitter. Let’s jump right in.

Let’s jump in.

Where do you want to pick?

Dan: I want to jump right into this thing! What pick would you prefer to have in a snake draft and why?

Pat: Usually I like to be as close to the middle as possible. It allows for the fewest picks between each selection, the least amount of positional-run projecting, and the best opportunity to pick off whatever value leaks as the draft progresses.

This year, however, there is a dropoff after the top three picks — Antonio Brown, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. — making the third pick desirable. I have A.J. Green close behind the Big Three wideouts, so I'm okay with the fourth pick as well. There are also quality options falling through the late-second and into the third round, which makes the value of an early pick even greater. It's unusual for me, but the third (or fourth) pick is my top choice this season.
