The data points are starting to accumulate and we’re getting a better sense of how teams are deploying their receivers and corner backs. Each week, I compile all of this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.
Remember, the chart only contains data from the present season. For those who would like to do historic research on coverage responsibilities, I suggest checking out the 2015 Coverage Data Chart.
Week 3 matchup upgrades
Julio Jones vs. New Orleans — Jones gets an upgrade yet again this week against the Saints’ patchwork secondary. There isn’t likely to be a shadow situation in this contest, but Jones figures to see a lot of Sterling Moore. The veteran corner got the start last week and was targeted on 28 percent of routes he covered. Jones is dealing with a calf injury, but he’s a premium play if he’s able to suit up.
Antonio Brown vs. Philadelphia — As if you needed a reason to start Brown, but the all-world receiver is a near-lock to rebound this week in a plus matchup. Because he moves around the formation, Brown will run routes against all three of the Eagles corners, but he’s likely to see Nolan Carroll most frequently. Carroll has the ninth-lowest grade among projected starting corners this week. Advantage: Brown.
