IDP waiver-wire options for Week 3
Two weeks down in fantasy football, and things are certainly starting to take shape around the league as we get a much clearer picture of which players have various responsibilities in base and sub packages for you IDP players. If you’re an owner of Mychal Kendricks (39-of-106 snaps) or Stephone Anthony (17-of-154) you’ll certainly be wanting to look for better options on this week’s waiver wire, so keep reading.
Following up on his stellar Week 1 performance, Kwon Alexander fell to seven total tackles in Tampa Bay’s blowout loss to the Cardinals. He currently resides at the top of the league’s tackle totals with 24, alongside Preston Brown, Mason Foster and Craig Robertson. Brown, the Buffalo ILB, has been in a three-down role through the first two games and has added a forced fumble and fumble recovery to his 24 total tackles (of which only 13 are solos). He’s a player to strongly consider as a LB2/3 for the rest of the season, although I would like to see him increase his solo tackle totals.
Foster and Robertson appeal more as “been here, done that” options, and by that I mean we’ve seen both players flirt with the fringes of fantasy relevance earlier in their careers without really taking that next step. Robertson has played 152-of-154 snaps for the Saints, as has James Laurinaitis, and it this pair of journeyman linebackers who are keeping the former first-rounder, Anthony, on the bench. Robertson’s 18 solos, four being tackles for loss, mark him out as my preferred choice as a pickup at linebacker this week. He’s currently grading out as our 11th-best run defender at linebacker and offers LB2 value and a high tackle floor as long as his every-down role continues.
