The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Xavier Worthy at 28th overall after trading up with the Buffalo Bills, of all teams. Worthy has elite speed, as he showcased at this year’s combine when he ran a 4.21-second 40-yard dash. He’ll come in as a high-end, big-play weapon for Patrick Mahomes.

What Worthy lacks in size, he more than makes up for in speed and game-breaking ability. Worthy was the No. 1 wide receiver for the Texas Longhorns in all three of his college seasons. Rashee Rice would be the expected WR1 in Kansas City, but he could be dealing with a potential suspension and open up some early playing time for the young rookie alongside the newly signed Marquise Brown.

The Kansas City offense operates largely off after-the-catch production, and Worthy is one of the class' best receivers in that regard. But he also has a lot of experience as a deep threat, with 94 20-plus-yard targets during his college career. Worthy’s speed is going to be his greatest weapon. Mahomes will get the ball in his hands early and often to let him produce, making this a great overall prospect-team fit.

Worthy's role will depend on whether Rashee Rice misses time due to a suspension. Kansas City now has several strong receiving options in Travis Kelce, Marquise Brown, Rice and Worthy. The Chiefs also have a history of not deploying their wide receivers in full-time roles, at least not right away, so Worthy could be a more volatile fantasy option as a rookie. He has the big-play upside and is paired with the best quarterback in the league, making him worth a roster spot and a strong best-ball option in Year 1.
