Now that the fantasy previews for the Power Five conferences are behind us, we can move to previewing the schools in the smaller conferences. But first, there are a handful of programs that have held out of any conference designation, so today we are tackling the FBS Independent programs.
Army Black Knights
West Point does not attract recruits with the same talent level as most FBS programs. The school challenges students to progress through a difficult, Ivy League schedule of academics and requires a five-year service commitment upon graduation. If drafted, players are not guaranteed to receive an exception to immediately play in the NFL, and top-level recruits often simply look elsewhere. In addition, the offense employs a triple-option attack that negates most of the fantasy value from the passing game, and distributes carries among an “army” of options.
