The Mr. Irrelevant pick doesn’t end the flurry of action that occurs during NFL draft weekend. Following the last pick in the draft, teams spring into action to sign undrafted players. In most cases, these players went undrafted for a reason, and they’ll never end up surfacing on an NFL roster. However, sometimes the league's initial evaluation of a player turns out to be incorrect, and he ends up being a productive pro or even better. Notable past undrafted free agents included WR Wes Welker, QB Tony Romo, TE Antonio Gates, and RB Arian Foster.
There may not be a future fantasy starter in this year’s crop of UDFAs, but if there is, here are the most likely candidates:
1. KD Cannon, WR, San Francisco 49ers
The speedster out of Baylor had the potential to be a Day 3 pick. He lands in a crowded, but lackluster depth chart in San Francisco, however, where the new coaching regime is almost certain to clean house. While he ran a limited route tree in college, Cannon’s speed bodes well for a future Taylor Gabriel-type role in Kyle Shanahan’s offense.
