If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were to select a position other than running back with their first selection, there are some very good options for Tampa Bay that should be available in the second or third rounds. That includes one that could add some much-needed elusiveness to a Bucs backfield that seemingly lacked it in 2016 in Toledo’s Kareem Hunt:

  • Bucs RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Doug Martin each ranked tied for 33rd with only 22 missed tackles forced in 2016.
  • Hunt – a likely second- or third-round RB – forced the second-most missed tackles (98) among draft-eligible running backs last season. His 76 missed tackles on run plays were also good enough for second.
  • Hunt’s 22 missed tackles forced on receptions alone tied Rodgers’ and Martin’s total missed tackles in 2016.
  • Hunt forced 48 missed tackles in 2015 and 57 in 2014. His 186 total missed tackles forced over the past three seasons ranks third among draft eligible RBs – behind only SDSU’s Donnell Pumphrey and FSU’s Dalvin Cook.

Fantasy Slant: With Doug Martin suspended for the first three games of the season and his future very much up in the air, the addition of a running back like Hunt in the draft would almost certainly spell the end of Martin’s time as a fantasy asset in the Bucs’ backfield. Hunt is currently ranked eighth in our pre-draft fantasy rookie running back rankings.
