While not an exhaustive list, the final two uncommon factors for drafting college quarterbacks that we'll consider are the potential for a two-man timeshare and blowout win benchings. Many teams will find that a pocket passer is the best option at their quarterback position, but implement an option offense that requires a different skill set. Despite potentially great percentages and seemingly consistent TD totals, timeshare options are not those with which to tinker. If the score were to become too comfortable, the pocket passer may take a backseat to the option specialist. When the score is not in the team's favor, the traditional passer could be on the field for the remainder of the game.
As for taking a seat on the bench in a blowout, this is a factor that should be greatly considered when setting your lineups. When a team is facing an FCS opponent or a too-good-to-be-true bottom of the rankings defense, it might not be long before your team's fantasy scoring loses its quarterback. A good way to gauge this likelihood is prior history of the head coach in blowouts and the player's ability to stay healthy.
With all of these factors in mind, we will continue the FBS breakdown with part two of the Big 12 quarterbacks that will impact the DFS (FanDuel and DraftKings), redraft, and devy-league formats.
