Each week at PFF, we've given you an overview of all the top draft-eligible quarterbacks across the college football world, with eyes towards the 2018 NFL draft. Now eight weeks into the season, with reputations building and some performances shining, it's time to rank those top draft-eligible quarterbacks in our weekly feature.
Below you will find the top draft-eligible quarterbacks from across the country, and how they stack up against one another in both traditional and advanced statistics, ranked by their overall PFF grade so far this season. While these rankings are obviously not how they'll either finish, nor how they are projected to be drafted, these rankings serve as a guideline to rank how each quarterback has fared for their respective teams, while our advanced stats further depict how they may fare at the next level.
With that, here are our takes on the top 12 draft-eligible quarterbacks, that you won't get anywhere else.
1. Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma – 95.8 overall grade
Game Grade vs. Kansas State: 95.8
Mayfield continues his dominating season with a near perfect performance on the road vs Kansas State. Arguably the most well designed offense in the college game, Mayfield found the creases in the zones over and over, with and adjusted completion percentage of 90 percent. His passing map showed throws at every level, and every depth, including deep throws traveling 20-plus yards where Mayfield connected on 5-of-6 attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown. His work off of play action ended up with video game like numbers, attempting 51.1 percent of his passes using play action for a stat line of 19-of-23 for 305 yards and a touchdown. Mayfield was able to use his legs effectively for big plays, averaging 12.3 yards per carry on his seven attempts with two going for scores. His Russell Wilson-like style of play is finally gaining serious talk as the potential top quarterback in next year's draft.
2. Will Grier, West Virginia – 92.3 overall grade
Game Grade vs. Baylor: 89.1
Grier had a fantastic day throwing down the field, from seam routes to deep posts, finishing 4-for-7 for 134 yards and two touchdowns and he was strong at the intermediate level finishing 6-for-7 for 151 yards and three touchdowns. West Virginia has a healthy mix of quick-hitting and field-stretching plays, and Grier’s been one of the nation’s best downfield passers this season, ranking 11th in adjusted completion percentage on 20-plus yard passes at 46.4 percent.
