Mark Barron is a priority IDP add in Week 9

There are some interesting cases this week of players playing out of position, and their fantasy designations, and how it increases their fantasy value, as well as some rookies being given opportunities heading into Week 9.

Let’s get right to it.

Defensive Lineman

The move to Carolina for Jared Allen got off to a slow start due to an injury and bye week, but the last two games have seen him play 143 snaps and flash some of his old pass rushing excellence. He’s notched a couple of sacks, four hits and three hurries over those two games, as well as ten total tackles, albeit just four solos. A highly capable veteran, I like Allen to have borderline DL1 rankings in weeks when the matchup is in his favor, but expect him to score more regularly as a DL 2/3.

The designation of Khalil Mack as a defensive lineman makes him a great pickup considering he’s playing the majority of his snaps as an outside linebacker, which gives him a higher tackle floor than many of his peers. That being said, he only has 27 total tackles on the season (22 solo). He’s been in opposing backfields a lot through the first eight weeks, generating two hits and 28 hurries (only Justin Houston, Cameron Jordan and Tambi Hali have more), but hasn’t really cashed in seeing as he has just four sacks, so I’m expecting a breakout game soon. Mack has the potential to be an elite defensive lineman because he is a dangerous presence on the edge, and has a high tackle ceiling, but he isn’t producing consistently in either category, which makes him a boom-or-bust weekly play for now.
