Another week, another critical injury to a big name running back. Dion Lewis joins an already too lengthy list of fantasy studs sent to the I.R. Considering Charcandrick West and Deangelo Williams filled their respective vacancies with similar elite production, is there a running back in New England that’s capable of emulating Lewis’ production?
New England Patriots – Lewis Injury Leaves Potent Vacancy
The injury to Lewis deals a significant blow to New England’s offense. When he was forced to miss Week 7 due to an abdominal strain, New England struggled to move the ball, compared to their usual pace, and trailed 20-16 deep into the fourth quarter against the New York Jets. Although Brady orchestrated two phenomenal game-clinching drives to seal a 30-23 victory, Patriots running backs combined for just 5-1-0 (3-26-0).
Now faced with the reality of completing the season without Lewis, the Patriots hope to fill the void with Brandon Bolden and James White. Bolden stepped in and immediately made an impact, logging 1-12-0 (3-27-1) on just 10 snaps. James White, on the other hand, was a healthy scratch for the game but not necessarily because the staff thinks Bolden is the better back, but rather due to Bolden’s involvement on special teams.
