Every Tuesday I’ll be giving you the lowdown on which individual defensive players (IDP) to target for the upcoming week’s waiver wire, so without further ado here is this week’s under the radar prospects. I try to cover both shallow and deep formats, so there is a chance that some of these players may be owned in your league.
Defensive Lineman
Michael Bennett, Seattle Seahawks 3 – 6% of FAAB
Michael Bennett is well known to IDP gamers after charting nine sacks last year in Tampa, but an offseason switch to Seattle and a shift to the interior of the defensive line had owners worried. Those concerns have proved unfounded so far this season as Bennett has 2.5 sacks in his last two games while adding a further three hits and nine hurries (pressure on 18.3 percent of pass rushes). With DE Cliff Avril and DE Chris Clemons healthy and pass-rushing OLB Bruce Irvin due back in Week 5, Bennett’s matchups are only going to get better making him well worth picking up as defensive line depth and a bye week alternate.
Fletcher Cox, Philadelphia Eagles 2 – 4% of FAAB
Through three games Fletcher Cox has two sacks, with an additional three hits and four hurries, which equates to pressure on 7.6 percent of his pass rushes. He also has added 9 total tackles, which is a decent output for a defensive lineman, and puts him on pace for 48 tackles this season. Cox will continue to get opportunities to rush opposing quarterbacks as the Eagles look like they will be in more shootouts before the season is over making him an interesting DL3 moving forwards.
