Fantasy: The Snap Report - Week 5 Offense

All 13 Week 5 Games Now Added

Bills 31, Eagles 24

Steve Johnson was in on all 63 offensive snaps in Week 5 and easily leads the team in that category this season. David Nelson handled 53 snaps and will rarely leave the field now that Donald Jones (nine snaps) is out for at least a few weeks.

When Jones went down, Nelson was moved outside and Naaman Roosevelt filled in at the slot. Expect him to see starter snaps going forward, as the Bills use the 3-WR set more than anyone. Brad Smith added a season-high 21 snaps, including a few in the wildcat, and Ruvell Martin was in on six. Fred Jackson was in on 58 snaps and is up to 279 this season. That’s a lot for a tailback and you can bet that his production on a per-play basis will begin to fade. CJ Spiller handled a season-low six snaps and is up to just 50 on the year. Scott Chandler was in on a season-high 42 snaps, but 30 were run plays.

DeSean Jackson was in on all 60 snaps in this one. Jeremy Maclin missed only two plays. Jason Avant’s big day came on 44 snaps. Steve Smith and Riley Cooper combined for seven snaps. LeSean McCoy was on the field on 53 plays and it seems Dion Lewis (three snaps) may have passed out Ronnie Brown (one) on the RB depth chart. Brent Celek was in on a season-low 53 plays, but still leads all Eagles skill position players in snaps. Clay Harbor was in on a season-low nine plays.

Bengals 30, Jaguars 20

AJ Green was in on all 66 of the Bengals’ Week 5 plays and has handled 293 of a possible 316 this season. Jerome Simpson was in on 55 snaps and has settled back into his No. 2 WR job. Andre Caldwell continues to man the slot, this week with 38 snaps played. Jermaine Gresham was in on 63 plays to just 17 for back-up Donald Lee. Cedric Benson played 37 snaps, while Brian Leonard was in on a season-high 20. Bernard Scott had six carries and a score, but was in on just 11 plays.

Marcedes Lewis handled 53 of a possible 58 snaps this week and has been in the 51-55 range each of the last three weeks. Zach Potter handled 23 snaps with Zach Miller out. Mike Thomas was in on 46 plays and is up to an offense-leading 227 on the year. Jason Hill added 39 snaps and led the offense with eight targets. After playing behind him all season up until Week 5, Jarett Dillard played 32 snaps to Cecil Shorts’ one. Maurice Jones-Drew was in on 47 snaps, compared to just 11 for Deji Karim.

Steelers 38, Titans 17

Heath Miller racked up 56 snaps this week and leads the offense with 294 on the year. Mike Wallace paced the wideouts with 52 snaps and Hines Ward was in on 46. Ward still holds an 11 snap edge on Wallace this season. The team spent a lot of time running the ball, which meant more Emmanuel Sanders (21 snaps) and less Antonio Brown (17). It also meant a season-high in snaps for FB/TE David Johnson (42) and TE Weslye Sanders (21). With Rashard Mendenhall out, Isaac Redman played 37 snaps. Jonathan Dwyer was the No. 2 back with Mewelde Moore also out and was in on 18 snaps, 13 of which were runs.

Damian Williams played 62 snaps in Week 5, which was one more than Nate Washington. Williams has a clear hold on the No. 2 WR job over Lavelle Hawkins, who was in on 49 plays, and is pushing Washington for the top WR title. Marc Mariani (seven snaps) played over Donnie Avery (three), who is still learning the system. Jared Cook was in the game on what was easily a season-high 57 snaps. Daniel Graham handled 19. Chris Johnson was in on 40 snaps, which tied the season-low he set in Week 4. Javon Ringer enjoyed a season-high 28 snaps, 25 of which were pass plays.

Vikings 34, Cardinals 10

Visanthe Shiancoe handled 54 snaps in this one, but there was a bit of a change behind him. With the Vikings playing with a big lead, Kyle Rudolph, a pass-catching TE, played a career-low 18 snaps. Expect that to rebound next week. Adrian Peterson was in on 46 snaps, compared to only nine for Toby Gerhart and five for Lorenzo Booker. Michael Jenkins paced the Vikings with 43 snaps, while Percy Harvin was in on 37. Bernard Berrian was a healthy scratch, so Devin Aromashodu stepped into his role. He was in the game on 33 snaps, which doubled his season-high. WR Greg Camarillo (six snaps) and FB Ryan D’Imperio (18) made their season debuts this week.

Larry Fitzgerald was in on the full 76 snaps in Week 5 and has actually played one more snap than even Kevin Kolb this season. Andre Roberts was just behind at 71 snaps played and has handled 118 more snaps than Early Doucet this season. Doucet was in on 55 plays this week – easily a season high. DeMarco Sampson was the No. 4 WR, handling 19 snaps. With Todd Heap out, Jeff King handled 41 snaps, while rookie Rob Housler was in on 34 plays, 27 of which were passes. Beanie Wells handled another 65 snaps, leaving a combined five for Alfonso Smith and LaRod Stephens-Howling.

49ers 48, Bucs 3

Vernon Davis played every snap for the fourth time in five games this season. The Niners continue to go 2-TE heavy. Delanie Walker was in on 40 snaps this week – a season high. No. 3 TE Justin Peele also played a season-high 20 snaps. With Braylon Edwards still out, Josh Morgan handled 36 snaps, but he went down with an injury that will cost him, at least, a few weeks, if not the season. Michael Crabtree was in on just 23 plays. Kyle Williams stepped up and played 19 snaps. He could be the No. 2 WR over Ted Ginn (11 snaps), while Edwards/Morgan are out. Frank Gore handled 39 snaps to Kendall Hunter’s 12. That ratio will continue throughout the year.

Mike Williams sat out on only three snaps this week and is up to 317 on the season. He holds a 60 snap edge on second-place Kellen Winslow in that department after Winslow was in on 48 plays this week. Arrelious Benn (33 snaps), Dezmon Briscoe (30), and Preston Parker (25) continue to share a majority of the remaining WR snaps behind Williams. LeGarrette Blount is injured and could miss a few weeks, but he did handle 24 snaps in this game. Earnest Graham is his handcuff and was in on 22 plays. Kregg Lumpkin was in on 11 plays, while rookie Allen Bradford made his Bucs debut with six snaps.

Packers 25, Falcons 14

Greg Jennings paced the Packers with 52 snaps played, sitting out on 12 plays, which is about his norm. Jordy Nelson was in on 30 snaps, his lowest total since Week 2. James Jones played 26 snaps and has been over 23 snaps each of the last three weeks. He played ahead of Donald Driver (22 snaps) for the second straight week. Randall Cobb was in on a career-high 18 plays. James Starks (29 snaps) continues to hold a comfortable edge over Ryan Grant (20). Tom Crabtree was in on 27 plays, while DJ Williams handled a career-high 16 snaps with Andrew Quarless out with an injury. Both were playing behind Jermichael Finley, who was on the field for 50 plays.

Roddy White handled 52 snaps and leads the Falcons offensive skill position players in that category this season. Harry Douglas and Julio Jones, who left the game with an injury, each were in on 32 plays. Eric Weems handled 20 snaps in relief of Jones. Tony Gonzalez was in on 49 snaps and sits 26 behind White on the year. Reggie Kelly handled a season-high 19 snaps. Michael Turner paced the backers with 30 snaps, but Jacquizz Rodgers (15 snaps) and Jason Snelling were just behind (12).

Seahawks 36, Giants 25

Despite a slow fantasy day, Sidney Rice paced the Seattle wide receivers with 68 snaps played. Ben Obomanu handled 63 snaps as a fill-in for Mike Williams. Doug Baldwin was solidified his job as the slot receiver, handling 53 snaps to Golden Tate’s 26. Anthony McCoy played 57 snaps as a replacement for injured Zach Miller (17 snaps). Miller has a concussion, but Cam Morrah is eligible to return from the PUP list after Week 6. Marshawn Lynch played 37 snaps, compared to 22 for Justin Forsett and a season-high 14 for Leon Washington.

Hakeem Nicks paced the Giants with 65 snaps played in Week 5. Despite another strong day from Victor Cruz, Mario Manningham played just four fewer snaps than Nicks. Cruz, meanwhile, was in on only 38 plays. Cruz did, however, run 33 pass routes to Manningham’s 41. Jake Ballard played 50 snaps at tight end, while Travis Beckum was in on 21. Ahmad Bradshaw played a season-high 52 snaps with Brandon Jacobs out of action. Danny Ware picked up a season-high 15 and Da’Rel Scott made his NFL debut with one snap. Fullback Henry Hynoski played a season-low 15 snaps in this one.

Patriots 30, Jets 21

Wes Welker played a whopping 69 snaps, skipping out on only three in Week 5. Deion Branch was in on 64 plays and has played 49+ in every game this season. He remains in the WR3 discussion. Chad Ochocinco played 27 snaps, while Matt Slater handled two. Rob Gronkowski played a season-low 59 snaps, which may have been a product of the return of Aaron Hernandez, who was in on 57 snaps. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was a workhorse with Danny Woodhead out. He handled 56 snaps, while Stevan Ridley chipped in with 11 plays.

Santonio Holmes was in on all 53 plays and continues to pace the Jets offensive skill position players this season. Plaxico Burress was in on 44 snaps. Jeremy Kerley appears to have passed out Derrick Mason as the team’s No. 3 wideout. Kerley handled 20 snaps to Mason’s six. Dustin Keller saw just two catches, but was in on 44 plays. Matt Mulligan handled 20 snaps. John Conner played a season-high 21 snaps. Shonn Greene was the lead back with 32 snaps played. LaDainian Tomlinson was in on 19 plays.

Raiders 25, Texans 20

Despite a zero-catch affair, Denarius Moore paced the Raiders skill position players with 46 snaps this week. Darrius Heyward-Bey was in on 45 plays and ran one more pass route than Moore. Jacoby Ford has settled into the No. 3 job and was in 23 plays. Chaz Schilens and Derek Hagan all but split 31 snaps right down the middle. Kevin Boss was in on 36 plays and is up to 110 over three games. Brandon Myers handled 21 behind him. Manase Tonga was in on 29 snaps as the fullback with Richard Gordon and Marcel Reece both injured. Darren McFadden was in 42 snaps, compared to just 17 for Michael Bush.

With Andre Johnson out of action, how did the Texans fill his shoes? For starters, Jacoby Jones (70 snaps) and Kevin Walter (69) both easily played a season-high number of snaps. David Anderson (16 snaps) stepped into the No. 3 role over Bryant Johnson (1). Owen Daniels played all but six snaps, but that’s the same as any other week. Joel Dreessen’s 61 snaps were easily a season-high. Interestingly, among RBs, WRs, and TEs, Daniels and Dreessen are one-two in snaps on the Texans. No other team is led by a pair of tight ends. James Casey played 25 snaps before suffering a minor injury. Arian Foster was in on 72 snaps, which matched his season total entering the game. With Derrick Ward and Ben Tate injured, Chris Ogbonnaya handled three snaps as the No. 2 back. Note that the Texans ran 79 plays in this game, which inflates the numbers a bit. They’ve been in the 56-68 range in their other four games.

Lions 24, Bears 13

Calvin Johnson was in on all 47 plays and has missed only one play since Week 2. Nate Burleson (42 snaps) played over Titus Young (28) for the fifth week in a row, but Young was only six behind in pass routes. Brandon Pettigrew trails only Johnson in snaps on the season among the skill position players after seeing 45 of 47 this week. Tony Scheffler (six snaps) played behind Will Heller (17) for the first time in 2011. Jahvid Best played 40 snaps en route to a huge fantasy day. Jerome Harrison was a healthy scratch, which means Keiland Williams (four snaps) and Maurice Morris (two) appear to be the primary handcuffs to Best.

Matt Forte played 62 snaps and leads the team’s offensive skill position players in snaps on the year– a rarity for a tailback. Marion Barber was in on four plays. Devin Hester led the Bears wideouts with 54 snaps played and he paces the unit in snaps this season. Dane Sanzenbacher handled a career-high 48 snaps, which led to a team-high 10 targets. Sam Hurd was in on 35 snaps, which means he played ahead of Johnny Knox (34) and Roy Williams (32). This is a situation to avoid. Kellen Davis was in on 38 snaps, while Matt Spaeth handled 13.

Chiefs 28, Colts 24

Among the league leaders at tight end in snaps, Leonard Pope paced the Chiefs’ skill position players with a season-high 65 snaps played in Week 5. Jake O’Connell was in on a season-high 43 plays, which is quite a bit considering he was waived only a few weeks back before being re-signed. Dwayne Bowe led the wideouts and was just one snap behind Pope. Steve Breaston was in 62 plays, while No. 3 wideout Keary Colbert handled 20 plays. Terrance Copper was in on seven. Jackie Battle is the new top dog at tailback. He handled 32 snaps to Thomas Jones’ 27. Dexter McCluster played a season-low 12 snaps in this one.

Reggie Wayne was in on 52 plays in Week 5, which paced the Colts’ skill position players for the fifth week in a row. Pierre Garcon was in on 45 plays, which more than doubled Austin Collie’s season low 20 snap day. Anthony Gonzalez seemed to work himself into a committee with Collie, handling just over a dozen snaps. Dallas Clark was in on 47 snaps, while blocker Brody Eldridge was in on 29 plays. Delone Carter (23 snaps) and Donald Brown (20) filled in for Joseph Addai (11), who went down with an injury early on.

Chargers 29, Tim Tebow Broncos 24

Randy McMichael continues to dominate the snaps with Antonio Gates injured. He handled 73 of a possible 77 in Week 5 and trails only Vincent Jackson among Chargers skill position players this season. Speaking of Jackson, he was in on 69 Week 5 snaps despite speculation that he’d be limited. Malcom Floyd, meanwhile, handled a season-high 60 snaps. Patrick Crayton was in on 32 plays, while rookie Vincent Brown handled just three. Kory Sperry was in on 45 plays as the No. 2 TE. Ryan Mathews handled 43 snaps, while Mike Tolbert was in on 13 plays. Both players suffered an injury, which allowed Jacob Hester to rack up a season-high 45 snaps.

After trailing him each of the last two games, Brandon Lloyd tied Eric Decker with 47 snaps a piece this week. Matt Willis was in on 26 plays and Quan Cosby made his Broncos offensive debut with one. Note that Eddie Royal and Demaryius Thomas are expected back after the team’s Week 6 bye. Daniel Fells handled 46 snaps, while Virgil Green and Dante Rosario combined for only 10. Willis McGahee managed 24 snaps as the lead tailback, but Knowshon Moreno was just behind at 20. Twenty of McGahee’s snaps were runs, while 18 of Moreno’s were passes. Tim Tebow entered at halftime and handled 25 of the 48 quarterback snaps.

Saints 30, Panthers 27

It was a 63 snap afternoon for Jimmy Graham, who now trails only Robert Meachem among Saints’ skill position players in snaps this season. Meachem was in on 52 plays, which led the wideouts. Marques Colston handled 50 and seems to be back to 100%. Lance Moore was in on 35 snaps, while Devery Henderson managed a season low 24. John Gilmore was in on a season-high 27 snaps as the No. 2 TE with David Thomas out. Darren Sproles again led the tailbacks in snaps, this time with a season-high 37. He’s played between 35 and 37 snaps each of the last three weeks. Pierre Thomas played 25 snaps to Mark Ingram’s 21.

Steve Smith paced the skill position players with 51 snaps, which was a season low only because the Panthers easily ran a season low number of offensive plays. He still leads the team on the season. Legedu Naanee played 44 snaps to Brandon LaFell’s 23. Naanee holds a 292-to-164 edge on LaFell this season. Greg Olsen was in on 45 snaps, while Jeremy Shockey handled 34. Jonathan Stewart was in on 33 plays, 21 of which were pass plays. DeAngelo Williams handled 19 snaps, 10 of which were passes. Stewart holds a 179-to-133 edge on Williams this season.
