Bears 24, Buccaneers 18
Kellen Davis easily reached a season-high with 60 snaps played on Sunday. This was mainly a product of the Bears big lead, as he ran only 17 pass routes. Matt Spaeth was in on 24 snaps. Although there was some noise during the week that Roy Williams was back in as a full-time starter, the rotation at wideout continues. Johnny Knox led the wide receivers with 42 snaps. Devin Hester, who leads the WR unit in snaps this season, was in on
39 plays and actually ran two more pass routes than Knox. Williams was in on 37 plays and ran only 17 routes, eight fewer than Hester. Dane Sanzenbacher handled 27 plays, but Earl Bennett is due back after the bye. Sam Hurd was in on 12 plays. Matt Forte racked up 56 snaps, while Marion Barber managed 11.
Mike Williams played every snap again this week and is up to 448 on the year. With the Bucs playing from behind, Arrelious Benn played only 18 snaps in this one. Instead, it was Dezmon Briscoe (47 snaps) out wide and Preston Parker (47) in the slot. Kellen Winslow was in on 62 of a possible 65 plays. Rookie Luke Stocker returned from injury and picked up 15 snaps. Earnest Graham went down with a season-ending injury five plays into his day, leaving 59 snaps to Kregg Lumpkin. Fullback Eric Lorig matched a season low with five snaps.
Falcons 23, Lions 16
Roddy White was in on 61 of a possible 69 snaps in this one and continues to lead the offensive skill position players. With Julio Jones out one more week, Harry Douglas filled in with 52 snaps – a season high. Eric Weems was the No. 3 wideout with 29 snaps played. Kerry Meier added four, which makes his season total entering the week. Tony Gonzalez was in on 56 plays, while backup Michael Palmer handled 25. Reggie Kelly was in on 15 plays. Michael Turner paced the backs with 47 snaps and was in on 18 pass plays. Jason Snelling (16 snaps) and Jacquizz Rodgers (15) split the No. 2 duties. Rodgers ran five more pass routes and had the only carry between the two.
Brandon Pettigrew was in on 54 snaps in Week 7 and only trails Calvin Johnson by nine snaps this season. Speaking of Johnson, he was in on 53 snaps, while Nate Burleson handled 50. The big loser this week was Titus Young, who saw only 14 snaps after seeing 28+ in each of the team’s first six games, including a 64-snap Week 6. Maurice Stovall was in on seven plays. Tony Scheffler was back from injury and handled 27 snaps. Will Heller was in on 15 plays and has been in the 11-to-17 range each of the last five weeks. With Jahvid Best out, Maurice Morris played 36 snaps and Keiland Williams handled 18. Morris ran 25 pass routes, while Williams ran only five. Each of the backs had nine carries.
Texans 41, Titans 7
Andre Johnson was still out, which allowed 61 snaps for Jacoby Jones in Week 7. Kevin Walter was next up with 45 snaps. Bryant Johnson handled 22, compared to just 12 for Derrick Mason, but Mason did run four more pass routes than Johnson. Owen Daniels’ 58 snaps paced the tight ends, again, but Joel Dreessen still racked up 44 of his own. Garrett Graham was in on seven plays and fullback Lawrence Vickers handled 31 in place of James Casey. Arian Foster’s huge day came on 48 snaps. Ben Tate was in on 17 plays and Derrick Ward saw only five.
Nate Washington’s 44 snaps paced the Titans offense in Week 7. Donnie Avery was next up among wideouts with 28. Lavelle Hawkins followed with 26. Damian Williams missed the second half, but racked up 20 snaps before his injury. Marc Mariani was in on two snaps. Jared Cook handled 29 snaps, only six of which were run plays. His 21 pass routes trailed only Washington and Hawkins among Titans skill position players. Daniel Graham (19 snaps) and Craig Stevens (10) also saw some action at tight end. Chris Johnson was in on 29 snaps, compared to 17 for Javon Ringer. Jamie Harper was in on two plays.
Cowboys 34, Rams 7
Jason Witten was in on 57 plays and has missed only five on the year. Martellus Bennett handled 36 plays, compared to just nine for John Phillips. Miles Austin paced the wideouts with 48 snaps, while Dez Bryant was in on 32. Austin ran 25 pass routes to Bryant’s 20. Laurent Robinson was in on 20 snaps and Kevin Ogletree handled two. DeMarco Murray’s record-setting day came on 41 snaps thanks to Felix Jones’ injury. Tashard Choice played six snaps before he suffered an injury, which allowed 11 snaps for Phillip Tanner in his NFL debut.
Mike Hoomanawanui is clearly this team’s top tight end. He was in on 49 snaps and has played 47-plus in four of his five appearances this season. Lance Kendricks has seen his snap numbers fall over the last few weeks and he hit a season-low with 18 this week. Blocker Billy Bajema picked up the slack with 27 of his own. Brandon Lloyd paced the wide receivers with 49 snaps in his Rams debut. Danario Alexander was next up at 36, but Greg Salas was just behind at 24. Austin Pettis played over Brandon Gibson and handled 10 snaps. Interestingly, special teamer Dominique Curry ran a pass route on three offensive snaps. Steven Jackson handled 46 snaps and Cadillac Williams was in on nine plays.
Broncos 18, Dolphins 15
Despite a nine-target afternoon for Demaryius Thomas, he played only 43 snaps, which ranked third among the team’s wideouts. Eric Decker was in on 68 snaps, while Eddie Royal handled 64. Matt Willis was in on 18 plays. Daniel Fells racked up 63 snaps, while Dante Rosario handled 12 and Virgil Green managed 10. Julius Thomas is expected back next week. Willis McGahee was in on 25 snaps before suffering an injury. Knowshon Moreno picked up the slack with 33 snaps, but Lance Ball was right there with 18 of his own.
Anthony Fasano rarely leaves the field, which resulted in a 67-snap Week 7. He easily beat out Brandon Marshall’s 58 snaps for the team lead among offensive skill position players. Brian Hartline is losing ground to Davone Bess, as he played 46 snaps this week to Bess’ 45. Hartline still has a 294-to-346 edge on the year. Clyde Gates was in on 14 plays. Jeron Mastrud handled 17 snaps as the No. 2 TE. Daniel Thomas paced the backers with 44 snaps, while Reggie Bush handled 24. Lex Hilliard was in on only two plays – a season low.
Chiefs 28, Raiders 0
Dwayne Bowe paced the offense with 64 snaps in Week 7. Steve Breaston was next up with 55 snaps and still seems to have a hold on the No. 2 job despite the debut of first round pick Jon Baldwin, who handled 26 snaps. Keary Colbert (14 snaps) and Terrance Copper (five) picked up the scraps. Jake O’Connell paced the tight ends for the first time this season with 45 snaps. He ousted Leonard Pope, who was in on a season-low 28 plays. Jackie Battle led the running backs with 37 snaps, easily beating out Thomas Jones’ 14. FB Le’Ron McClain was in on 33 plays, while Dexter McCluster handled 22.
Darren McFadden suffered an injury after only six plays in this one, which allowed Michael Bush to enjoy a season-high 50-snap afternoon. Taiwan Jones chipped in with seven snaps, but clearly isn’t trusted yet to handle must of a workload. Denarius Moore paced the wide receivers with 46 snaps played, which beat out emerging Darrius Heyward-Bey by two. Despite trailing DHB by six targets, Moore also ran six more pass routes than his fellow starter. Jacoby Ford was in on 28 snaps – his highest total since returning from injury in Week 4. Derek Hagan handled 18 snaps and Louis Murphy was in on 15. Chaz Schilens was inactive. Kevin Boss led the tight ends with 35 snaps and Brandon Myers returned to his TE No. 2 role with 19.
Saints 62, Colts 7
No Saints RB, TE, or WR played more Week 7 snaps than, you guessed it, Jed Collins. With the team up by a massive margin all night long, Collins handled a season-high 45 snaps. No. 2 FB Korey Hall was in on 17 plays. Marques Colston managed 42 snaps, but the shuffle at wideout behind him continued. Devery Henderson was No. 2 in line for the second week in a row, handling 38 snaps. Robert Meachem was in on 37 snaps and Lance Moore racked up only 27. The good news for Moore is that he ran 20 pass routes, compared to only 13 for Meachem. Colston ran 28 and Henderson ran 23. Jimmy Graham was in on 40 plays, 33 of which were pass plays. He sat in favor of John Gilmore (36 snaps) on run plays. Pierre Thomas led the tailbacks with 28 snaps. Mark Ingram was in on 27 plays and Darren Sproles, who leads the unit this season overall, handled 25.
Pierre Garcon is emerging and Reggie Wayne is fading, but Wayne still continues to lead the wideouts in snaps. Wayne played 43 to Garcon’s 40 in Week 7 and holds a 19-snap edge on the year. Austin Collie was in on 23 plays, while Blair White made his offensive debut this season with three. Dallas Clark was in on 37 snaps, while Brody Eldridge handled 24. Jacob Tamme managed three plays before suffering a head injury. Joseph Addai returned from injury, but suffered another after only eight snaps. Delone Carter and Donald Brown filled in, each handling 19 snaps.
Packers 33, Vikings 27
Despite seeing only two targets, Jermichael Finley led the Packers skill position players with 48 snaps in Week 7. Andrew Quarless returned from injury with 23 snaps and Tom Crabtree handled 13. DJ Williams was in on two plays. Greg Jennings paced the wideouts with 38 snaps and leads the unit this season by a huge margin. Jordy Nelson was next with 33 snaps. Donald Driver handled 27 and James Jones was in on 23 plays. Randall Cobb racked up 12 snaps. Nelson (228 snaps on the season), Driver (204), Jones (183) continue to share snaps each week. James Starks led the backers with 32 snaps, but FB John Kuhn was just behind with 31. Ryan Grant carried the ball on nine of his 18 snaps.
For the first time this season, Visanthe Shiancoe did not lead the tight ends and wide receivers in snaps. He was in on a respectable 49 plays, but Devin Aromashodu was in on 60 and Michael Jenkins enjoyed 55. Greg Camarillo handled 25 snaps, while injured Percy Harvin managed only 18. FB/TE Jim Kleinsasser was in on 28 plays, while TE Kyle Rudolph handled a season-low 16. Adrian Peterson paced the backs with 49 snaps. Toby Gerhart was in on nine plays, eight of which were passes. Lorenzo Booker racked up four snaps.
Jets 27, Chargers 21
Santonio Holmes saw only three targets, but he did lead the Jets offensive skill position players in snaps with 60. Plaxico Burress’ three-score day came on 54 snaps. Jeremy Kerley was in on 25 plays and Patrick Turner handled three. Dustin Keller was in on 55 plays, while Matthew Mulligan easily reached a season-high 43. John Conner was in on 15 plays and has been in the 15-to-23 range each of the last five weeks. Shonn Greene led the backers with 36 snaps, but LaDainian Tomlinson wasn’t far behind at 25. Joe McKnight was in on five plays.
Vincent Jackson led the Chargers offense with 54 snaps. He holds a massive edge over the next closest wideout, Malcom Floyd, on the season, which was helped by the fact that Floyd played only 34 snaps in Week 7. Patrick Crayton was in on 15 plays and Vincent Brown played six snaps. Randy McMichael led the tight ends with 43 snaps, but Antonio Gates handled 38 in his return from injury. Gates blocked on only nine of those snaps, running pass routes on the rest. Kory Sperry helped with the run blocking, entering the game for 16 snaps, 13 of which were run blocking opportunities. Ryan Mathews missed some time with an injury, but still played 33 snaps to Mike Tolbert’s 25. Mathews ran seven more pass routes.
Jaguars 12, Ravens 7
Marcedes Lewis was targeted only twice, but still played 63 snaps and now leads all offensive skill position players in that category this season. He passes out Maurice Jones-Drew, who played 51 snaps this week, and Mike Thomas, who played a season-low 29. Thomas played behind newcomer Mike Sims-Walker (56 snaps) and Jason Hill (43). Thomas did, however, run only four fewer routes than Sims-Walker and three fewer than Hill. Jarett Dillard was a bit of a surprise as a scratch considering his large snap totals the last two weeks. That left seven snaps for Cecil Shorts and three for Kassim Osgood. No. 2 TE Zach Potter was in on 23 snaps. Maurice Jones-Drew played 51 snaps, leaving 15 for Deji Karim. Jones-Drew has handled between 46 and 51 snaps each of the last five weeks and Karim has seen between 10 and 15 snaps each of the last six weeks.
Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin, and Ed Dickson all handled exactly 50 snaps in the team’s Week 7 game. Boldin’s 354 snaps on the year gives him a slight edge over Dickson for the lead among offensive skill position players. LaQuan Williams was in on 17 plays as the No. 3 WR. Dannis Pitta handled 26 snaps and has been above 24 snaps each of the last four weeks. Ray Rice led the backers with 47 snaps, 38 of which were pass plays. Ricky Williams was in on six plays.
Browns 6, Seahawks 3
Greg Little handled 81 of 84 possible snaps and leads all Browns skill position players in snaps this season with 361. Josh Cribbs was next up among wideouts with 59 snaps. Mohamed Massaquoi suffered a concussion, which limited him to 31 snaps. Brian Robiskie stepped up into 27 snaps, while Jordan Norwood handled six. Ben Watson suffered an injury of his own, which allowed a season-high and TE-leading 38 snaps for Evan Moore. Alex Smith was in on 33 snaps and Jordan Cameron made his NFL debut with two snaps. With Peyton Hillis out, Montario Hardesty handled 58 snaps. Chris Ogbonnaya was in on 27 plays, 21 of which were pass plays.
Sidney Rice paced the wideouts by handling 45 of a possible 50 snaps in Week 7. Mike Williams seems to be back to 100%, as he handled 42 snaps. Doug Baldwin was in on only 28 plays, while Golden Tate and Ben Obomanu split 17 snaps as evenly as possible. With Zach Miller out, Anthony McCoy took care of 40 snaps at the tight end position. Cam Morrah, fresh of the PUP list, was in on 14 snaps, 13 of which were pass plays. Marshawn Lynch was also out, which allowed 27 snaps for Leon Washington, two-thirds of which were pass plays. Justin Forsett was in on 23 snaps, 15 of which were passes.
Steelers 32, Cardinals 20
Heath Miller led the offensive skill position players with 62 snaps in Week 7 and leads on the year, as well. Weslye Saunders handled 27 snaps behind him. Mike Wallace led the wideouts with 48 snaps, but Hines Ward suffered a concussion, which allowed his handcuff Emmanuel Sanders a season-high 42 snaps. That easily beat out Antonio Brown’s 29 snaps, but Brown ran only four fewer pass routes and was targeted two additional times. As alluded to a few times already this year, Brown is the preferred receiver and Sanders is the preferred blocker. Brown has played three more snaps than Sanders on the year. The Steelers have thrown the ball on a ridiculous 84.1% of Brown’s 195 snaps this season. Talk about predictable. Jerricho Cotchery was in on 13 snaps, all of which were pass plays. Rashard Mendenhall was in on 36 snaps and Isaac Redman handled 14. Mewelde Moore returned from injury with 13 snaps.
Larry Fitzgerald handled all 56 snaps in Week 7 and is up to 368 on the year, which is actually one more than Kevin Kolb has played. Andre Roberts was the No. 2 again, taking care of 53 snaps. Early Doucet was in on only 29 plays, but still had more targets than Roberts. DeMarco Sampson seems to have claimed the No. 4 WR job, racking up 19 snaps. With Todd Heap out, Jeff King was in on 29 snaps and Rob Housler handled 24. Beanie Wells only managed 25 snaps before suffering an injury. LaRod Stephens-Howling picked up 15 snaps in relief, 14 of which were pass plays. Alfonso Smith ran the ball on five of his eight snaps.
Panthers 33 Redskins 20
Steve Smith was in on 57 of the team’s 64 snaps in Week 7, which led the team. Legedu Naanee (43) played over Brandon LaFell (30), which has been the case in each game so far this season. Seyi Ajirotutu saw his first snap since Week 3. Greg Olsen handled 56 snaps and fellow tight end Jeremy Shockey was in on 41 plays. Jonathan Stewart’s 40 snaps led the backers. DeAngelo Williams was in on 26 plays. Stewart holds a 253-to-185 edge on Williams this season.
Fred Davis paced the Redskins skill position players with 61 snaps played. With Chris Cooley out for the season, Davis is now solidified as the team’s go-to tight end this season. Logan Paulsen played 14 snaps as the No.2 tight end and Darrel Young (22 snaps) worked as the fullback. Jabar Gaffney’s 44 snaps led the wide receivers. Relieving an injured Santana Moss (nine snaps), Anthony Armstrong picked up 41 snaps. Terrence Austin was third among wideouts with 34 snaps, but Niles Paul was just behind, racking up 26 of his own. Leonard Hankerson made his NFL debut with one snap. Tim Hightower dominated the backfield touches early, but only reached the 28 mark before going down with a season-ending injury. Filling in were Roy Helu (31 snaps) and Ryan Torain (four). Only two of Helu’s snaps were run plays and 75% of his snaps on the season have been pass plays.
