49ers 25, Lions 19
Vernon Davis paced the 49ers with 63 snaps this week. He’s missed only two snaps this season. Delanie Walker scored on one of his 29 snaps. With Josh Morgan done for the year and Braylon Edwards still out, Michael Crabtree racked up 14 targets on 52 snaps. Ted Ginn stepped into the No. 2 role with 42 snaps played. Kyle Williams was next up with 20, while newcomer Brett Swain played one snap. Frank Gore handled 45 snaps to Kendall Hunter’s 17. Anthony Dixon had a goal line carry on one of his two snaps.
Nate Burleson was in on all 74 offensive plays in this game, but Calvin Johnson was just behind at 73. Johnson still holds a 28 snap edge over Burleson this year. Titus Young was in on 64 plays, while Rashied Davis and Maurice Stovall combined for four snaps. Brandon Pettigrew was in on 70 plays, while Will Heller added 11 in place of an injured Tony Scheffler. Jahvid Best racked up 47 snaps before suffering a concussion. Maurice Morris filled in with 25 snaps, 19 of which were pass plays. Keiland Williams was in on only two plays and Jerome Harrison was inactive.
Packers 24, Rams 3
No Packers player handled more than 75% of the offensive snaps this week and only Greg Jennings is above 80% this season. Jermichael Finley paced the offense with 46 snaps this week and trails only Jennings among offensive skill position players this season. Jennings was just behind at 45 snaps. James Jones continues to play more and more. He handled a season-high 39 snaps this week, which was five more than Donald Driver and six more than Jordy Nelson. Nelson has played 195 snaps to Driver’s 177 and Jones’ 160 this season. Randall Cobb’s 10 snaps were his lowest total since Week 2. Andrew Quarless was still out, allowing 24 snaps for Tom Crabtree and 20 for DJ Williams. James Starks handled 31 snaps to Ryan Grant’s 18. Starks has played 225 snaps to Grant’s 100 this season.
Mike Sims-Walker was a healthy scratch and is likely finished as a member of the Rams now that they acquired Brandon Lloyd. In Week 6, Brandon Gibson handled 67 snaps as a starter, but his snaps are now in serious jeopardy. Danario Alexander racked up 10 targets on 66 snaps and likely has a better chance than Gibson at retaining a starting job. Greg Salas quickly replaced Austin Pettis as the team’s slot man and played 53 snaps. Pettis handled only three. Although he finally had a decent fantasy day, Lance Kendricks played only 31 snaps, while Mike Hoomanawanui handled 46. Hoomanawanui also ran five more pass routes than Kendricks. Billy Bajema was in on 17 plays. Steven Jackson was in on 53 of the offensive snaps, which left 18 for Cadillac Williams.
Eagles 20, Redskins 13
Week 6 saw a season-high 65 snaps for LeSean McCoy. Dion Lewis (four snaps) and Ronnie Brown (two) were barely used. DeSean Jackson paced the wideouts with 64 snaps played. Jeremy Maclin (62 snaps) and Jason Avant (season-high 52) were just behind. Steve Smith was in on seven plays, while Riley Cooper handled five. Brent Celek racked up 63 snaps, but only 22 were pass routes. Clay Harbor was in on 24 plays – his highest total since Week 3.
Jabar Gaffney led the Redskins’ wide receivers in snaps this week for the first time this season. He was in on 47 of a possible 53 plays. Santana Moss was in on one fewer play and still leads Gaffney by 30 snaps on the year. With the Redskins trailing by double-digits most of the day, Anthony Armstrong out since Week 3 with an injury, and Chris Cooley out with a broken finger, Donte’ Stallworth stepped into 40 snaps as the No. 3 wideout. Niles Paul and Terrence Austin split nine snaps. Fred Davis racked up 47 snaps and leads all Washington skill position players in snaps with 285 this season. TE Logan Paulsen managed nine snaps and FB Darrel Young was in on eight plays in place of Cooley. Tim Hightower was still out, which left Roy Helu and Ryan Torain to hold down the fort. Each played 26 snaps, but Helu was in on 24 pass plays, while Torain handled 10 carries.
Falcons 31, Panthers 17
Tony Gonzalez paced the Falcons with 54 snaps in Week 6. After sitting out a total of 13 snaps through five weeks of action, Roddy White missed 11 plays during a run-heavy Week 6. Oddly, this also comes the same week that Julio Jones sat out with an injury. Replacing Jones was Harry Douglas, who played 36 snaps. Eric Weems handled 25 snaps, while Kerry Meier was in on just three plays. Reggie Kelly (14 snaps) and Michael Palmer (11) split time as the reserve TE. Michael Turner was in on 41 plays, while Jason Snelling handled 15. Snelling seems to have retaken the No. 2 HB job from Jacquizz Rodgers, who played only four snaps.
Steve Smith handled 60 snaps, which led the Carolina wideouts for the sixth week in a row. Legedu Naanee was in on 55 plays, which was 19 more than Brandon LaFell saw. Naanee holds a 347-to-200 edge on LaFell this season. Greg Olsen handled 55 snaps and is only two behind Naanee on the year. Jeremy Shockey continues to be heavily involved, this week racking up 34 snaps. He’s played 19 more snaps than LaFell this year. It was a 34 snap day for Jonathan Stewart and all but seven of those snaps were pass plays. DeAngelo Williams edged Stewart in carries (12-to-7), but played eight fewer snaps.
Bears 39, Vikings 10
The Bears were able to rest some players late in this game, which means we have a handful of season-low snap counts. Matt Forte paced the offense with 40 snaps, while Marion Barber handled 20. Devin Hester led the wideouts with 36 snaps played and holds a 276-to-204 edge over second-place Johnny Knox on the year. Dane Sanzenbacher was on the field for 34 plays, while Roy Williams handled 32. Sam Hurd (28 snaps) was on the field more than Knox (25). Kellen Davis paced the tight ends for the sixth week in a row – this time with 32 snaps. Matt Spaeth was in on 29 plays.
The Vikings used 15 different QB/RB/WR/TEs in this game, with none playing more than 49 snaps. The “49” was Visanthe Shiancoe, who is up to an offensive-skill-position-player-leading 301 snaps this year. Kyle Rudolph racked up 39 snaps – one short of a career-high. Adrian Peterson was on the field for 47 plays, while Toby Gerhart handled only 14 – the first time he’s hit double digits this season. Lorenzo Booker was on the field for three plays. Michael Jenkins led the wideouts, again, this time with 43 snaps. Bernard Berrian was back in as a starter and handled 38 snaps. Percy Harvin racked up 28, 22 of which were pass plays. Devin Aromashodu was on the field for 20 plays and Greg Camarillo took just three snaps.
Buccaneers 26, Saints 20
Mike Williams continues to play every snap on offense, this week racking up 13 targets on 66 snaps. He’s been in on 383 plays this year, which is eight more than even Josh Freeman has played. Arrelious Benn is finally starting to put a little bit of separation on the other wideouts, this week handling 38 snaps, compared to 23 for Dezmon Briscoe and 21 for Preston Parker. That said, Briscoe and Parker ran only three and four fewer pass routes, respectively. Kellen Winslow was in the game on 52 snaps and Zach Pianalto handled 17 with Luke Stocker still out with an injury. LeGarrette Blount was also out, which allowed Earnest Graham a 53 snap day. His backup, Kregg Lumpkin, was only in on 13 plays, 10 of which were pass plays.
Jimmy Graham paced the Saints with 54 snaps played in Week 6. With Dave Thomas still out, John Gilmore handled 18. Marques Colston was in on 53 snaps, making him the only reliable WR on this team right now. After playing 24 snaps last week, Devery Henderson was up to 39 this week – second among wideouts. Lance Moore was just behind at 33 snaps and ran three more pass routes. Robert Meachem was in on 30 snaps after pacing all offensive skill position players in snaps heading into the game. Darren Sproles led the backers, once again, this team with 32 snaps, a whopping 29 of which were pass plays. Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram were each in on nine run plays, but Thomas handled 23 snaps to Ingram’s 14.
Giants 27, Bills 24
Jake Ballard’s snaps have progressively been on the upswing all season. He reached a season-high and offense-leading 61 snaps in Week 6. Filling in for Henry Hynoski, FB/TE Bear Pascoe was in on 44 plays. Travis Beckum handled only eight. Hakeem Nicks was in on 60 plays and is up to 358 on the year, which leads all Giants’ offensive skill position players. Mario Manningham was in on 50 plays this week, while Victor Cruz handled only 21. That is Cruz’s lowest mark since Week 1. Jerrel Jernigan made his Giants offensive debut with a pair of pass routes. Ahmad Bradshaw was in on 54 plays. With Brandon Jacobs still out, Danny Ware handled 10 snaps and Da’Rel Scott was in on one play for the second straight week.
Steve Johnson was in on 56 snaps and is up to 354 on the year – the same number Ryan Fitzpatrick has played. Despite rumors to the contrary, David Nelson (52 snaps) stuck in the slot and RB/WR CJ Spiller (35) took over out wide for Donald Jones. Naaman Roosevelt caught a long touchdown, but only handled 20 snaps. Brad Smith was in on 15 plays. Fred Jackson continues on as one of the league’s rare workhorses, this week handling 56 snaps. He’s been between 51 and 61 each game this year. Scott Chandler was in on 33 plays at Tight End.
Patriots 20, Cowboys 16
Rob Gronkowski (68 snaps) and Aaron Hernandez (65) paced the offense this week, but Wes Welker (64) was right on their tails. Deion Branch was next among wideouts with 62 snaps, while Chad Ochocinco was on the field for only seven plays – a season low. Taylor Price (one snap) made his season debut and one would have to imagine that he’ll work his way in to WR #3 snaps at some point. Matt Slater was only in on one play. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was in on 29 plays and Danny Woodhead handled 28. Rookies Steven Ridley (eight snaps) and Shane Vereen (three) were limited participants.
Jason Witten was in on all 67 snaps in Week 6 and has sat out on only two plays this season. Miles Austin handled 59 snaps (40 pass routes) and Dez Bryant was just behind with 50 snaps played (37 routes). Laurent Robinson was the No. 3 WR, as expected, and saw 34 snaps. Kevin Ogletree was in on a season-low three plays. Martellus Bennett handled another 36 snaps and John Phillips was in on 23 plays, which has led to the Cowboys leading the NFL in 2+ TE sets. Felix Jones was injured after 16 snaps, which allowed a career-high 23 snap day from DeMarco Murray and another 23 snaps for Tashard Choice. Choice was in on 18 pass plays, while Murray handled seven more run plays than Choice.
Steelers 17, Jaguars 13
Heath Miller was on the field for 55 snaps and still leads Steelers’ skill position players in that department. Weslye Saunders handled 12 snaps behind him. Mike Wallace paced the wideouts with 54 snaps, holding a nine-snap edge on Hines Ward. They each ran 25 pass routes, however, and Ward still has a four-snap edge this season. Emmanuel Sanders played three more snaps than Antonio Brown for the second week in a row and actually equaled him in pass routes. Jerricho Cotchery did not play. Rashard Mendenhall was in on 31 snaps to pace the backers. Only eight of those plays were passes. Isaac Redman handled 19 snaps, 12 of which were passes. Mewelde Moore was out.
Marcedes Lewis has paced the Jaguars’ offensive skill position players in snaps in each game since his return from injury back in Week 3. He was in on 55 of a possible 61 plays on Sunday. Zach Potter was in on 12 snaps and will hold down the No. 3 TE job with Zach Miller done for the season. Mike Thomas handled 51 snaps to lead the wideouts. After passing Cecil Shorts for No. 3 wideout duties last week, Jarett Dillard played one more snap than Jason Hill in Week 6. Dillard was in on 42 plays, easily a season-high. Shorts was in on just one snap. Maurice Jones-Drew handled 51 snaps to pace the backers, while Deji Karim was in on just 10 plays.
Jets 24, Dolphins 6
Santonio Holmes paced the wide receivers with 53 Week 6 snaps, but Plaxico Burress was only seven behind. With Derrick Mason gone to Houston, Jeremy Kerley handled 23 snaps in the slot. Patrick Turner was in on four plays. Dustin Keller’s 45 snaps led the tight ends and Matthews Mulligan racked up a season-high 28. FB John Conner’s snaps have progressively increased each week and he hit a season-high 23 this week. Shonn Greene led the backers with 29 snaps, eight of which were pass plays. LaDainian Tomlinson was in on 25 snaps, 17 of which were passes.
No Dolphins’ skill position player has played more snaps than Anthony Fasano this season. He paced the field again in Week 6 with 58 snaps played. Jeron Mastrud handled seven snaps as the No. 2. H-Back Charles Clay was on the field for 30 snaps, which was more than his season total of 20 heading into the game. Brandon Marshall trails only Fasano in snaps on the season (by four) and handled 55 this week. Brian Hartline was next with 37 and Davone Bess handled 34. Hartline holds a 248-to-214 edge on Bess this season. Clyde Gates was in on six plays. Daniel Thomas led the backers with 37 snaps, while Reggie Bush handled only 19. Bush was in the game for only nine pass plays. FB/HB Lex Hilliard handled a season-high 25 snaps.
Bengals 27, Colts 17
Jermaine Gresham played another 63 snaps this week and falls in that category of tight ends playing all but on but a handful of snaps each week. Donald Lee handled a season-high 33 snaps as the No. 2. AJ Green was in on 62 plays to pace the wideouts, while Jerome Simpson was in on 45. Green has a 355-to-286 edge on Simpson this season. Andre Caldwell was in on 23 plays and Andrew Hawkins played just one snap. Cedric Benson paced the backs with 38 snaps. Bernard Scott (11 snaps) was on the field more than Brian Leonard (12) for the first time this season.
Reggie Wayne led the wideouts in snaps for the sixth straight time this season. He was in on 57 players, compared to 55 for Pierre Garcon and 40 for Austin Collie. Collie’s 40 snaps were the second-most he’s seen this season and double his total from Week 5. Anthony Gonzalez did not see the field after a 13-snap outing in Week 5. Dallas Clark was in on 49 plays. Brody Eldridge handled 17 snaps and Jacob Tamme enjoyed a season-high 11 snaps, which matches his total for the season entering Sunday. With Joe Addai out, Donald Brown (31 snaps) and Delone Carter (27) formed a committee attack. Brown was in on 24 pass plays. Carter had nine more carries.
Raiders 24, Browns 17
Darrius Heyward-Bey was in on 46 snaps in Week 6 and currently leads all Raiders skill position players in snaps this season with 265. Denarius Moore continues to run as the No. 2 wideout, handling 41 snaps. Jacoby Ford was in on 16 plays. Chaz Schilens (13 snaps), Derek Hagan (four), and Louis Murphy (four) chipped in, as well. Murphy was making his season debut. Brandon Myers may have passed out Kevin Boss for the starting job in Oakland. Myers played 36 snaps to Boss’ 20. Boss ran only three pass routes. Myers ran seven. Darren McFadden was on the field for 45 plays, while Michael Bush handled 23 snaps.
Greg Little led the wideouts in snaps for the fifth time in as many games. He handled 66 of a possible 68 snaps in this one. Mohamed Massaquoi was on the field for 58 plays. Josh Cribbs worked 34 snaps as the No. 3 wideout. Brian Robiskie was in on a season-low four snaps and Jordan Norwood was in on three plays. Ben Watson hit the 60 snap mark for the third time this season, this week with 61. Evan Moore handled a season-high 16 snaps, but has still played only 57 on the year. Alex Smith was in on 15 plays. Montario Hardesty paced the backers with 55 snaps. This was mainly a product of a hamstring injury to Peyton Hillis, who managed only 15 snaps.
Ravens 29, Texans 14
Anquan Boldin was in on 62 plays, which paced the team’s skill position players. Torrey Smith was just behind at 57 snaps. LaQuan Williams was the only other wideout to play, handling 16 snaps. Ed Dickson was in on 53 plays, while Dennis Pitta racked up 29 snaps. Pitta has now played 29+ snaps in each of the team’s last three games. Ray Rice was on the field for 49 snaps, compared to just 13 for Ricky Williams. FB Vonta Leach has racked up 40+ snaps in each of the team’s last three games.
With Andre Johnson still out, Jacoby Jones led the wideouts with 60 snaps. Kevin Walter was just behind at 55. Jones has played 275 snaps to Walters’ 224 on the year, but Walter did miss a game. Derrick Mason made his Texans debut with 26 snaps, 25 of which were pass plays. Bryant Johnson saw a season-high 14 snaps. Owen Daniels was in on 57 snaps and no other Texan skill position player is within 80 snaps of him on the year. Joel Dreessen handled another 36 snaps and Garrett Graham was on the field for two plays. James Casey was out with an injury, which allowed 14 snaps for Lawrence Vickers. Arian Foster paced the backs with 52 snaps played. Ben Tate handled 14 snaps and Derrick Ward did not play.
