If you’re still alive in your fantasy football league and reading a waiver wire article in Week 16, that means you’ve advanced as far as you can. Either by riding a great draft, or aggressively attacking free agency throughout the four-month-long season, you’ve reached the championship game and are a lineup away from history.
Congratulations on making it this far. All that research, number-crunching, and obsessing since this summer paid off. Whatever you’ve been doing to advance this far, keep it up. Stick with what’s been working and use all the remaining free agency budget you have left to shore up that last roster spot.
Even if your squad is solid, there’s no point in leaving any free agency dollars on the table. If you have to, be ruthless and study your opponent’s roster. Maybe you can outbid them on a key player just to prevent him or her from starting a player against you this week. It’s all fair strategy.
Whether you’re adding talent to replace injuries to your own team, picking up young talent in a keeper league, or blocking your championship opponent, this is the final time you’re going to be attacking the waiver wire this season. Remember to be aggressive and spend it all.
Again, congratulations on a job well done. Hopefully this weekly feature has been helpful in your achievements this year. Let’s go out and get that final victory to end this 2015 season.
Quarterbacks
Jameis Winston, Buccaneers (ESPN 40% owned; FAAB 12%) – With 25 touchdowns, Winston has now entered QB1 territory as the No. 12 scorer in redraft leagues. That’s quite remarkable for a rookie signal-caller who was overlooked by some due to questions about his leadership and ability to adjust to the NFL game. Winston has been extremely consistent by scoring over 15 fantasy points in every game and ranking as PFF’s No. 10 quarterback for 2015. In short, Winston probably shouldn’t be on waivers, but he is widely available. If you find yourself in trouble due to losing Marcus Mariota, Winston makes a great Week 16 replacement versus a Bears secondary that has allowed 29 total touchdowns to quarterbacks and just got lit up by Teddy Bridgewater for four touchdowns.
