Week 5 optimal Yahoo lineup: A Giants stack

Time for the week in Yahoo daily fantasy. As we enter Week 5, it is clear that the pricing algorithms on DFS sites are becoming more accurate. This is evidenced by the tighter pricing ranges seen across the board at multiple positions. Trends that two weeks ago may have seemed like a mirage now have to be taken seriously. We’ve seen enough game action that you shouldn’t be afraid to change your stance on a player from the beginning of the season if things aren’t going as you expected.

As I will every week, I’ll remind you that it’s important to remember some of the subtle differences between daily fantasy and other types of fantasy football, as well as the differences between the aforementioned DFS game types. Daily fantasy operates under a budget, so the relative value a player offers at his respective price is just as important as his raw statistical production when constructing lineups. As far as cash games vs. tournaments, remember that 50/50s and Double Ups generally have a lower cash line while tournaments will require a unique and high-scoring lineup, so choose the ceilings and floors of your players accordingly. My optimal tournament lineup for this week in Yahoo DFS is at the end of this post.

Quarterbacks

I try as hard as I can to stay off of narrative street when it comes to fantasy football, but I’d be remiss to not bring up the fact that Tom Brady ($40) will be playing with a chip on his shoulder in his first game off suspension against a Browns defense that is bottom ten in the league in terms of fantasy points per game allowed to opposing quarterbacks. Cam Newton ($40) is dealing with a concussion, and the Yahoo pricing is so tight at the top of position that there isn’t enough of a discount to the other top options for me to ignore Brady in that range if you are paying up in cash games (save for Aaron Rodgers at $38, but I prefer him in tournaments). After two weeks of having to dumb down the playbook with Jacoby Brissett and force-feed LeGarrette Blount, there is no doubt that the normally pass-happy Josh McDaniels is dying to open up this offense, and Brady will want to keep his foot on the gas once he does. Las Vegas apparently agrees, as New England has the highest implied team total (28.5) this week. It should be a voluminous, high floor afternoon for the veteran as he begins his revenge tour.
