This is a look at Week 17 in Yahoo DFS. As I will every week, I’ll remind you that it’s important to remember some of the subtle differences between daily fantasy and other types of fantasy football, as well as the differences between the aforementioned DFS game types. Daily fantasy operates under a budget, so the relative value a player offers at his respective price is just as important as his raw statistical production when constructing lineups. As far as cash games vs. tournaments, remember that 50/50s and Double Ups generally have a lower cash line while tournaments will require a unique and high-scoring lineup, so choose the ceilings and floors of your players accordingly.
Here’s my optimal Week 17 tournament lineup on Yahoo’s main slate.
QB: Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins ($31)
Week 17 is almost like the preseason, where external factors find their way into our analysis and figuring out what teams plan on playing their starters (and how long) is extremely important. The Giants are locked into the NFC’s No. 5 seed and have nothing to play for on Sunday, while the Redskins are fighting for their playoff lives. I’d take advantage of the fact that Yahoo’s heavily matchup-based pricing algorithm isn’t aware of Washington and New York’s respective playoff positions and only sees the Giants’ second overall ranking in terms of fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks on the season. In Week 3, Kirk Cousins was able to put up 296 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers on just 35 attempts on the road in New York. His ownership should be kept in check by the perceived tough matchup, and his cost offers an excellent discount on the top priced passers. No matter what Ben McAdoo says about playing his stars, I doubt Cousins sees a full game of the Giants’ defensive starters. This theory is supported by the fact that the spread on this game has tilted more and more in Washington’s favor over the course of the week.
