Optimal DFS lineups: Using the tool to discover a must-play for FanDuel

Each team has two games in the book. Well, except for the Patriots, who have a three-game sample, and the Texans, who had whatever that was… oof.

You also have had two weeks to tinker with your DFS lineups and probably have players on your radar that you already want to consider in Week 3. Therefore, this week we’re going to focus on the part of our DFS Optimizer Tool that compares players.

But first, here’s some general FanDuel housekeeping that will help you with your FanDuel contests:

  • FanDuel changed the slate construction for their major contests. From this points forward all major contests (like the NFL Sunday Million Maker and our own Pro Football Focus Championship) will be Sunday only (changing from a Sunday-to-Monday setup).
  • Make sure to save your lineups before you close out a page. I messed up and didn’t do that last week and it killed me. Learn from my mistakes. The lineups don’t automatically save so you can tinker and then decide against it, so push save.

Now let’s get back to some player comparisons so we can put together a fantastic FanDuel lineup.

Create a lineup

Go ahead and select “create a lineup” in the middle of the DFS Optimizer Tool landing page. Select the “Sunday Only” slate since that’s the slate type that you’ll use for the majority of your contests with the new rule change.

This week I decided that I will choose a quarterback, tight end, kicker and defense from the top-three projected players. Then I’ll choose one running back and wide receiver from the top-five projected players. After those elite options are in my lineup, I will optimize to get the best value plays at the remaining three spots in my lineup.

Great explanation! Ill definitely try it this weekend when making my line ups.

    Hi BML,
If all the data by PFF matched up this would be truly inspirational…sadly it doesn’t.
Perfect example: T.Y. Hilton week 3.
If you subscribe to NFL Player Grades here’s what you’ll see…
In a 3 receiver offense Hilton lines up on the right against Verrett… (Dorsett is in the Slot) and in the basic offense he lines up on the right against Flowers?
In the DFS Optimizer Matchup Overview (as described in article above)
He lines up 34.31% to the LEFT against Verrett, 36.40% in the slot and 29.29% to the right against Hayward and Williams.
    Oh it gets worse…
Go to this week’s WR/CB chart matchups and here’s what you will see…
He lines up 23% on the left, 62% Slot and 15% to the Right.
This is embarrassing and shameful quality control…which I’m paying All Access for.
    It better get corrected soon…Thank-you

Great Post! It definitely seems like this site has two sides that has yet to sync with one another. They get paid too much money for these obvious mistakes. You will never see a response unfortunately.

Also why do I feel like he read the cornerback matchups wrong.
