PFF’s fantasy football cheat sheet for Week 5

It’s Week 5. In fantasy football, you’re without the Chiefs, Saints, Seahawks and Jaguars. Carson Palmer has already missed a game, and Cam Newton is possibly going to follow him, Kevin White followed Sammy Watkins to injured reserve, while Tyler Eifert suffered a setback, and we haven’t seen vintage Rob Gronkowski yet.

Fantasy’s a hard game.

We’re here to help, with our top advice for Week 5 for any sort of game you might be playing. You’ll want to tour through our entire list of advice from the week, but if you’re short on time, this cheat sheet will get you most of the way to where you need to be.

Below, you’ll find five of our top pieces of advice from the week, with links to the pieces the advice is drawn from. After that, you’ll find links to the rest of our season-long content for the week, and from there we move on to our DFS advice. Good luck in Week 5.

Season-long fantasy

Downgrade Houston WR DeAndre Hopkins

The simple truth is, if you have Hopkins in a redraft league, you’re probably using him. But between his early struggles, a tough matchup against the Vikings and the fact that Hopkins is losing a big chunk of his target share to rookie Will Fuller, and it’s at least worth looking at whether your roster has a better option than Hopkins sitting there.

Add Chicago WR Eddie Royal

After 111 yards and a score on Week 4, Royal is a nice waiver claim. Add in the fact that Kevin White went on IR this week with a high-ankle sprain and a fractured fibula, and Alshon Jeffery being perpetually banged up, and Royal could rise way up in Chicago’s target shares. He might not be the sexiest play, but sometimes just having the job is enough.

Stream Philadelphia QB Carson Wentz

Brian Hoyer just went for 300-plus yards and two scores against the Detroit defense, and the Lions have averaged allowing three scores a game this year. Wentz is our top-graded QB for the season, with the highest adjusted completion percentage. Add in the fact that he’s had an extra week to prepare because of the Philadelphia bye, and he looks like a good option.

Sit Washington RB Matt Jones

Jones had a big Week 4, with 138 total yards and a touchdown against the Browns. Of course, a week before that, he had 65 yards on 17 carries, and that had been his season high. Jones hasn’t offered anything like reliability or predictability. In Week 5, Jones and the Washington offense take on the Ravens, who currently have our top-graded run defense, headlined by Timmy Jernigan and Eric Weddle. Jones isn’t likely to have anything like the success he had a week ago.

Buy Green Bay WR Randall Cobb

Jordy Nelson has four scores through three games and Cobb has zero. There’s not much reason to think those two will continue to have that sort of disparity. With Aaron Rodgers starting to look Rodgers-like again, there should be plenty of scores available in the Green Bay offense, and assuming the balance returns to even a marginal level, Cobb should start scoring again. With his value at a virtual all-time low, investing now could carry a big return.
